Let us be clear about what rent seeking is as a culture and a societal construct. It is a relationship where some use their property to convert other people or most people into property or chattel. You'll hear rent seekers complain about the commons because they want to enclose other people to treat them like chattel in for-profit work camp prisons. They drive wages down and debt and interest rates up in order to use money to enslave people. They like privatization of infrastructure to create corporate welfare barons. They drive services down and costs up to ensure people work more hours to keep them too tired to resist. They drive the creativity out of other people's children work camp class-rooms. You'll see them create a financial crisis and then bail themselves out and then demote everyone else with huge cuts to their quality of life and call it austerity. Same with unnecessary phony pre-emptive wars of aggression. None of this stuff is other than theft and criminality. They also want info enclosure or lock-in so they are anti-internet neutrality and pro sponsorship and pro-censorship (paid discrimination.) You'll see them push zero rate internet service and push sponsorship plus subscription where ever possible and they like "medium is the message" top down consolidated media platforms and they also like fear mongering and spreading terror- this is part of their corralling. But you'll notice they don't actually contribute to society but instead focus on sucking the time out of people's lives to keep them tread-milled. They also don't like the use value of goods its always the exchange values of goods or 'free' trade because they are all about being able to exploit people an don't want level playing field contracting or agreements, they prefer graft and bribery. But certain very concrete trends in culture and technology are happening now that will destroy them outright. AI & Truth Matching. As we well know by now let slip the wrong kind of AI and we're all dead but about any other kind of strong AI, let alone let loose something like the predicted super artificial general intelligence and rent seeking is destroyed because it makes telling the lies necessary to keep it afloat essentially impossible. It kills sponsorship because things like product choice become obvious in more efficient and effective search regimes and sponsorship was always about censorship anyway- it makes that entirely obvious. It becomes almost impossible to use statistics to like to populations made intentionally innumerate. Censorship becomes about impossible too as does state secrecy. Further, states become more transparent to each other- this makes crime and criminality and fraud much more difficult- they basically won't be able to tell their stupid Machiavellian lies to people anymore and won't be able to justify fraudulent inequity based on non-contribution their own total lack of social utility and will further face actual criminal prosecution with much greater certainty and finality breaking the "crime pays" feed-back loops they've set up and further law will much more effectively outlaw actual crimes and white collar crime (which drives blue collar crime) in particular. It also means they won't be able to lie about their incomes- the Cayman islands won't survive as it will be so much harder to hide ill-gotten gain and much more subject to full disgorgement followed by felony prosecution. Also state secrecy becomes almost impossible leading to state transparency which is the best thing for privacy and preserving individual human voices and liberty. It also won't be possible to bribe through lobbying anymore. In short AI makes BS transparent and BS pushers go to jail. Decentralization: Its not just cutting the cord on the pumps with power packs and roof top solar and electric cars and all electric appliances, it goes much much further. We won't really need telecoms anymore. They may have some back up use but they have been unnecessary for a long time just as centralized energy has been. Steve Jobs threatened AT&T with iPhones that would communicate directly with each other cutting them out of the loop as part of his bid to get the right deals and presumably that was a big part of why he got what he wanted- wonder if it was part of his departing early as well. He openly talked about eliminating telecoms. Telecoms are just another toll road like gas pipelines that are unnecessary and which we will be getting rid of in short order. The first step is making them into complete dumb pipes. If you look at the technology behind MaidSAFE's SAFE network you can see that is going to happen. You can see that it will run SOLID, Tim Berners Lee's project to give personal control over data back to people and stop the mining of privacy. You can also see this stuff will go mesh based. Most new IOT objects aren't going to do the toll road model of communication. If you look at the tech inherent in 5G you can see there is no basis for the rationing nonsense anymore, there won't be anymore capping and prioritizing in order to create artificial scarcity to create fraudulent margins. We simply don't need these people anymore so their rent seeking enclosure is destroyed and so is their manipulation of our speech. Besides we live an on ocean of dark fiber- point is it is over and no amount of bribing through lobbying will fix this. Most devices will gain energy from the environment and carry their own com access to mesh of one sort another without the toll road. Doesn't matter how you want to do it- white noise propagation channels, LiFi, Tesla's plan, car to car or carrying it on the IOT mesh will mean no more telecom pigs. There is no longer the ability to create the scarcity and the enclosure to prioritize the one way money megaphone and thereby reinforce the self-imposed elite narrative and culture. Suspect this is part of what they are pissed at Huewei about, maybe this more than anything. It won't just be telecom that gets decentralized its happening to banking as well, MadeSAFE provides an approach superior to block chain tech but regardless the FED and central banks are going to be disambiguated with the crypto currencies, they will be cut out as the middle men so their fraudulent covers like fossil fuel derivatives to hid the majority of fossil fuel assets being stranded is going to implode. Taxes aren't going away, that's a that's a right libertarian delusion, but for the wealthy they will hit more tangible assets and rely more on actual detective work like they should- have to make purchases at some point and when they come up for air they get hit. High Indexed Guaranteed Annual Income for former Rent Seekers When the former members of the leisure class fall all the way down as they will when the extraction for non contribution or net negative contribution rent seeking is outlawed these people will need the GAI to survive. Labor has been running on fumes for 50 years, it is over for labor and it is never coming back, but as the other side of the coin is capital so it is also over for rent seeking capital. Actually these kind of GAIs are not new they go all the way back to the ancient Greek State. You see the state through taxes has always created about 1/3 of the demand haul. The coercion of tax is what creates the value in the currency making it seem like it is something more than monopoly money. Yes there was more to it than being backed up by guns and butter or rare minerals. But that same tax hall never needed to be filtered through a rent seeker employer class first. In fact employment is over. This bs where we get money and we tell people what to do because of us getting money- that is over! You'll be able to join something that might be productive as a member but there will be no more of this stuff about sell yourself like a prostitute and be proud of your self-exploitation at the hands of some idiot employer situation that will use you like a tool- nope high indexed GAI gives self-agency to every citizen and ultimately every human. So nope, that stuff doesn't fly anymore either- employers are rent seekers who never pay enough to create competitors- that has been recognized as crime in the past but that recognition is permanent now. No one will be doing anything they otherwise wouldn't for money anymore. No one will be exploiting other people for money without a felony. If we can't get a machine to do it and people won't do it, it won't get done- too damn bad! Rent seekers also aren't going to be able to create the conditions to use other people's children as cannon fodder- if your society isn't worth defending it won't be defended. The whole finders keeper mindset is being destroyed. Oh look people are lounging about lazing about like the lazy fat leisure class today that never works more than 4 hours per week if that off of abuses of OPM- well that is going to be extended to everyone as the cost of true freedom and recognition of who the real non-contributing parasites were. continued in next post.
TAAS won't be rent sought upon either Some may be thinking well Tesla will be able to rent seek etc. Wrong. Enough people will own their own cars. But in many places TAAS can be provided as public transport. The vendor providing the vehicles doesn't have to be the same vendor providing the service and really the municipality can handle the service directly and do the charging with its own assets which of course will be non fossil fuel based with no intermediaries getting paid- remember GAI replaces corporate welfare dole completely. We will see more public internet too. I mean after all why should we allow corporate criminals like AT&T to extract more money and turn around and use it to send us junk mail and lobby against free speech and against our rights and against our freedom and for surveillance and fear- these are treasonous non personhood criminal entities- they have no rights against actual citizens and none even against each other and the kind of crap law that says otherwise will be purged. Outside of civil rights we could roll US law back as a whole to about 1970 or prior most of the damage of the Nixon era. Even though it can be a slippery slope- when people try to do things even through formal political processes that are an obvious attempt to hurt the public- they won't be able to peddle the usual platitudes about free enterprise or socialism, no they will go to jail. Ownership replaced by Membership With large entities ownership models will be replaced by membership and commons models. Exchange value will give way to use value. There will be no ability to create depravity through coercion of artificial scarcity. Employment is over and civic assertion will be back- there will be enough time to assert rights. There will be membership based entities that engage in production but this idiot vassal relationship known as employment is over. There will be no more cons pushing 'human resources,' because humans are not resources but ends in and of themselves. The very basis of elite claims will be gone: Much of elite idiocy revolves around the theory that there are special people with specialized bits of gray matter that are localized to time and space which actually generate or are highly correlated with or able to produce desired unique material which can in turn produce exclusive contractual monetization and set up special classes of people with special rights and privileges some times stupidly referred to as 'rights holders,' etc. This also takes the form of the star manager idiocy- AI will automate them out. But with CRISPr tech such claims are harder to foist and become much more generic. You can change all your DNA into someone else's overnight. Of course all the more impactful stuff alluded to as epi-genetic will remain but blurring identity will be much easier and we're finally figuring out that brains aren't much more than transceivers or that human identity is generic to begin with. The further we go into the future the ability for anyone to have what anyone else has will only increase. The meritocracy BS will be ended. Thomas Picketty recommended a tax on the core assets of the rent seekers not just on income and he also recommended global wealth tax regimes to prevent flight. I could see those coming but not sure we need either of those to achieve the same result but that result is coming- capital strikes and capital flights will be stomped. You sure as hell don't need billionaires to achieve big projects, you can have smaller pools of wealth come together, and you certainly can't afford billionaires if you have hungry people. The gig is up. The rent seeking is over. The rent seekers have been on the public dole their whole lives long, often for inbred generations all we are doing is beginning to formally recognize it and track it and stopping it from taking cannibalistic forms that destroy the lives of others. I get to tell you what to do because I have more money or enough money is over!!! Also over are the decisions and structures like crony courts that support this stuff.
