Hello, dear Kona owners. I have 2019 Kona witk 25k km on it. Last weeks I have felt a small clunk and a jolt after I switch my car to D after reversing. Abit similar with ICE with man gearbox if the clutch is a bit worn out. For other instances I press D and the car leaves smooth as silk. Has anybody had similar clunk and jolt?
I've had that happen consistently when my cars is on ramps (for maintenance) and I'm trying to position it or remove it. It might be related to the slope of the surface you're on. I think it happens when the motor is stopped but under tension, or has been turned slightly while shifting between those "gears". In any case I doubt it's anything serious. I wrote a slightly better explanation on SpeakEVs since OP has posted there and on MyHyundaiKona as well.
Much as KiwiME suggests, i had similar startup noises from my "cousin car" th KIA Niro EV. Until recently I parked against a floors top, to ensure clearance behind the car in our garage. Reversing made the clunking noise described until I stopped leaving the front wheels "chocked". Now it just clicks as the motor engages Reverse, no mechanical complaints.
