The shop did the calibration; he claims to train Honda people to do that.

Did you get the information off of the glass? I was hoping to get not only the manufacturer name but also the part number and whatever other codes were on there.

I asked the JJB Autoglass owner, who did the replacement and I think he said XYG was the manufacturer. Meanwhile, he called about 40 Honda dealers in California and finally found one 5 hours away who had an OEM windshield. JJB drove down last night, picked it up and drove back. Installed it today and everything works fine. He showed me the aftermarket one he took out, and the camera bracket seemed to be slightly off, and it only

BIL just had to get the windshield replaced on a 2020 Subaru Outback. Safelite would not come to his house or work as the cameras had to be recalibrated and could only be done in a Safelite repair center. But they do the calibration.

  8. I wonder if the system uses the camera to figure out whether the lanes are curved. On a curved road the car in front of you may be quite a bit off to the side, and it would need the camera to know whether the lane you're in curves to the left or the right or it's reading a car in an adjacent lane.

Also, a mismounted bracket would have been my guess for the problem here. The camera probably has relatively tight tolerances into which it can be calibrated and if the camera mounting bracket was too off, it may not be possible to successfully calibrate the camera, especially as it sounds from the description that it's just an electronic calibration where the camera is figuring out where the center of the field of view is. The camera probably needs quite a bit of peripheral vision and therefore if it's too far off it wouldn't be able to see far enough to the side.

Dealing with a cracked windshield is frustrating, but there are solutions. Many have successfully managed windshield repairs through insurance providers like Safelite. Before choosing, consider consulting your Honda dealer regarding camera/sensor recalibration, and also explore options like reputable windshield repair kits such as Crack Eraser crackeraser.com for addressing smaller chips and cracks before they worsen.

  10. That reads like it was generated by AI.

Did you happen to read beyond the first post, which is nearly 4 years old? The 4th post is where the OP informs us that the windshield was replaced.
