Need Mitsubishi tow hitch?

Hi there. I’m trying to figure out if I can add a generic tow hitch from Uhaul or etrailers (<$200), or whether I need the factory tow hitch at >$500 installed? There seems to be suggestions that the PHEV requires special wiring, but if I’m only going to be using it for a bike rack, will a generic model suffice? My dealer couldn’t add any accessories when I purchased because their service department was closed for the weekend.

I made a tow hitch good for at least 3000 pounds. The tail pipe is routed under the hitch. It is bolted, using the holes and sleeves present on the frame. In Europe this car is rated at 1500 kg, I do not see the problem to increase the load occasionally. I bought the Mitsubishi lighting harness for $84. Well explained instructions with a lot of pics.
