I couldn't find a previous thread regarding an after market key fob for my 2018 Clarity, so I hope I am not beating an expired equine. I can find some fobs on EBay and other sites for $100 or less supposedly with programming instructions. Can I get a cheaper, viable key fob and program it myself?

Thanks for the referral but it takes me to Facebook. Since I don't have a Facebook account and at age 73 am disinclined to immerse myself in the belly of that beast, I could not scroll down to Aaron's thread. Is the answer complex about programming a cheaper aftermarket key fob?
The important parts of the Facebook thread: I just bought my 2018 Clarity used with 1500 miles, but it only came with 1 fob. I ended up taking a chance and bought a non-OEM 3rd party FOB off Ebay for $48. I took it to the dealership and they had it programmed in 20 minutes. Charged me $80. Local locksmith said he would *try* programming it for $125. WA state. The dealer said no guarantees that it'd work, and I had to pay regardless. Anybody interested, this is the Fob I purchased: ebay.com for Honda Clarity 2018 Smart 433.92MHz Remote Car Key Fob… https://www.ebay.com/itm/for-Honda-Clarity-2018-Smart-433-92MHz-Remote-Car-Key-Fob-KR5V2X-A2C98676600/264425259542?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649 Miles Fagerlie This is good to know! Just wondering, did the $80 programming charge by the dealer include cutting the metal key? Aaron Eastman No, I didn't get it cut. Just programmed.
I just had to replace keys recently, and paid $200 each ($400 total for 2 different fobs and 2 different cars...don't ask!). That included 2 fobs, programming, and cutting of the keys. Not as good as $48 + $80, but easier. That was in the Bay area. As I posted on the earlier thread on this subject: Be careful with the one on e-bay as apparently it won't work for a 2019 Clarity Touring. For that one would need (I think!) part # 72147-TRW-A12 for driver 1 and 72147-TRW-A22 for driver 2. Both are available at https://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/search?search_str=Key+fob but they are hardly cheap at $271 and you would still need to have them programmed.
