There’s an old thread on the subject with photos and specific parts mentioned. “Roof rack for Clarity.” There’s a kayak as long as the car with a string tied to the front bumper, maybe there’s one on the back as well. I’d recommend adding a hitch installation to the project and procuring a solid support for a third point of contact. This would only be done to reduce the risk the of the watercraft executing a Triple Lindy or converting the car to a ragtop.

The roof is steel, you can do a magnet test to confirm. It is probably stronger than your typical sedan because it has to support a much heavier car in case of overturning.
