Some idiot broke the J1772 latch that also controls the ‘presence’ pin resistor switch. He jammed but I used a flat to free it. Sure enough, you can toggle ‘presence’ and get a charge. I shared this with the Huntsville Tesla group. Tonight I found the J1772 had been thrown away from the pedestal in frustration. But I picked it up and was able to get a free charge. Was this right? I began to realize that we could ‘modify’ J1772 plugs that disabled the latch yet left ‘presence’ pin switch working. It would be a guerrilla effort to get the J1772 standard fixed. The problem with a standard is the original members never see the operational failures. So a flawed standard lives longer than it should. Worse, advanced features like DC charging are never applied. For now, I and the Tesla community of Huntsville have a unique, broken, J1772 that the ignorant and original vandal can not use. Bob Wilson
