Canadian pre-orders now available

It appears, for example, that there are no trims in the U.S. that have cloth seats. In Canada every trim level except for Ultimate AWD has cloth. I think it's a cost-cutting move. In the U.S. the government incentive isn't price based so it doesn't matter.
Has anyone even seen what the cloth seats look like? I haven't.

Wonder if it'll slip?

 

I looked up the Canadian zero-emission vehicle rebate program (see below). It appears there are only two ways a $54,999.99 vehicle qualifies: either there's a base version of that vehicle selling for less than $45K, or the vehicle has 7 seats. If there's a third-row of seats in the Ioniq 5, I haven't read about it yet. I hope someone can help me understand what I'm missing.


To be eligible for the Incentives for Zero-Emission Vehicles program, you have to purchase or lease:

• a vehicle with six seats or fewer, where the base model (trim) Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) is less than $45,000;
  • higher priced versions (trims) of these vehicles, up to a maximum Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $55,000, will also be eligible for purchase incentives;

Or

• a vehicle with seven seats or greater, where the base model Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) is less than $55,000;
  • higher priced versions (trims) of these vehicles, up to a maximum Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $60,000, will also be eligible for purchase incentives;

You will still be eligible for the incentive even if delivery, freight and other fees, such as vehicle colour and add-on accessories, push the actual purchase price over these set limits.

 

The base "Essential" model will undoubtedly be priced at $44,999 or lower thus qualifying subsequent, higher priced trims for the $5000 rebate. Probably the top two trims will be above $55,000 and will not qualify. It's possible that all trims except the Ultimate AWD might qualify. And, no, the Ioniq 5 only has 5 seats.

 

For that reason alone only can consider the " Essential " model but do not understand why only available in white.

 

Because they don't want to make them at all and certainly aren't interested in offering choices at that price level. They are literally only making them to qualify the bulk of the Ioniq 5 trim line for the government incentives.

And I know you didn't ask for advice but, unless you're set on the Ioniq 5, and money is an issue, there are far better choices available at lower price points.

 

Only reason I like the Ioniq 5 is the exterior styling reminds me of the 1980's style. I was one of few that preferred the rectangular lights of the 80's over traditional round headlights before. Also the interior looks futuristic ( I am big Star Trek fan ) and RWD for me is preferred over FWD.

Considered placing order but not sure if deposit refundable is you do not proceed? Is there a frunk on this model like Mach-E, Tesla etc ? Could live with white if had too, at least it is not black for base colour.

Deposit is fully refundable up to the point of delivery. Tiny frunk. Like a briefcase.

 

... And even the top trim of large battery AWD will qualify, if it's under $55k, IFF the ultimate is considered a package add on, and not an entirely different trim. It may be a $8-10k package, who know.

 

My guess is $63,999 for the Ultimate. It hurts just to type that.

 

From an Inside EVs article. Answers a question some of us had.

"while driving on the highway in an eco mode, the all-wheel-drive Hyundai Ioniq 5 uses only the rear motor. We guess that the front one was physically disconnected (E-GMP platform's feature)."

Should help with range.

 

Yes. Disappointing in a number of ways. That being said I have to wonder if the difference between a more reasonable speed and the (I think) outrageous speed of 133kph might be exponential and really skew real world efficiency and range numbers.

I have been thinking the lack of rear wiper was no big deal but I've got major doubts after seeing that video.
And I think you're right about the speed exponentially eating into range. The faster you go the more resistance is seen. Check the Asian Petrolhead video where they go 460km. It's a pleasant day, and they are definitely going much slower. There are 3 people in the car too. There's a Norwegian article that was done where they went 502 km. They drive the speed limit, whatever it is, and it's cool because they tested like 20 different BEVs on the same day.

This result is encouraging, especially knowing that the RWD 77kWh version should be much better.

 

Well the order for the Ioniq 5 was very short lived. Hyundai dealership not willing to sell me the Essential version, ask me to change order to AWD model.
Cancelled the order.
Wouldn’t even give me time frame to return deposit.
