My ChrargePoint Home is online! Now I just need the car to use it with! Sent from my iPhone using Inside EVs
In my case I use the "low-cost" charging mode, and have the departure time set for 7:30am. So any notifications wouldn't be sent until around 3am, when I'm sleeping and won't get them. Which is why I had a surprise.
I have the same unit. It has, so far, been flawless. I set the in app reminder to give me a 9 PM heads up if I have not plugged in. And I positioned it so that I only need about 3 feet of cable to plug in. I never have to unloop and loop lengths of cable.
Great to hear! Thanks for letting me know. About the “Remind Me to Plug In” feature, I enabled it (just to play with) at 9pm as well, but I’ve not received any notifications from it. I chalked it up to not having actually used it to charge yet, but did you have to do anything other than enable the reminder in the ChargePoint app to have it remind you? Also, have you used the Siri Shortcuts (I believe I recall you said you have an iPhone) to start and stop charging with the ChargePoint Home at all?
I finished up permanently mounting my Smart Grizzle-E today. I used a Lowes water hose hanger mounted eye level and draped the charging cable over it. I didn't bother mounting the provided holster. I like the rudimentary Station report, it gives a warm fuzzy that its charging properly. The current mini app lets me know when its charging, when it should be done, and pushes a notification when fully charged. Nice. The first day, the plug pulled out of the Mini's charge socket smoothly. Today I find I have to rock it up and down a little while pushing the button to persuade it to release. I sprayed them with a bit of silicon lube without affect. Is this kind of thing to be expected, or should I be looking for a clearance problem? As you can tell, I'm new to electrics.
Maybe it's just me, but the SE's charge socket seems to be at an awkward angle that makes it difficult to align the plug for smooth engagement.
I agree the angle is unintuitive and, hence, awkward. The "glaring" lack of an illuminating LED to make it easier to connect in the dark is also puzzling. Our Honda Clarity Plug-In Hybrid has an illuminating LED, the angle of the connector is more convenient, and there's no rubber cover that has to be removed because the charging cover lid incorporates the connector cover. It's too bad MINI didn't copy Honda.
Hi MiniSER - I've seen a backorder for Chargepoint Home Flex for quite some time. What was your order timeline for the Chargepoint? My Mini just got on the boat yesterday so wondering how far in advance I should order a Chargepoint.
Sorry - I somehow missed the notification on this post. I believe you won't get notifications until you start charging with it. And I have not tried to use Siri yet.
Well, my Mini should be coming anytime soon, so figured I better get my EVSE. Been watching for a sale on the Grizzl-e, but they stay at $439. Discovered that the company sells refurbished ones on their website at a reduced price and they are still covered for 3 years under warranty, so I'm good with a refurbished one. Plus I was able to select a regular cable rather than the premium. Should be easier to use and will always be inside in the garage, so did not want the heavier premium one. They are no longer selling new ones with the regular cable. So here's the link for any one interested: https://grizzl-e.com/product/usa/chargers-usa/grizzl-e-refurbished-2/ Ps, apparently they go pretty fast. Yesterday there was 18 with the premium cable and now only 7.
Just got the Grizzl-e smart, double check the length of the plastic hook on the cable against the Mini's own charging cable. The one I was sent was ever slightly too long and got stuck in the car. They're sending me one that will work.
For those interested in a ChargePoint... I ordered mine on 5/20, website said was backordered for 4-5 weeks. It shipped yesterday, so at least in my case the 4 week estimate was pretty accurate. Glad I had the time to spare to order from ChargePoint directly than buy at inflated prices from Amazon/eBay.
Today my car is one week young. As I am a low mileage user I am happy just charging it at home using the supplied Level 1 cable. I tried the DC fast charger once at a gas station. My experience is posted in another feed. In order to be more flexible if I need to charge on the road, I am thinking of buying a Tesla to J1772 adapter made by Tesla Tap. Does anyone has any experience on this?
I’ve been using TeslaTap for about 9 months, primarily with our long range EV. It is an absolute godsend for non-Tesla EVs. Tesla deployed L2 “destination chargers” at thousands of hotels around the US. It has made trips that much easier. Even when there is a J1772 option available, the TeslaTap often puts out more power so it has saved a lot of time. I would check Plugshare and sort by Tesla adapter (not Supercharger, they won’t work for DC chargers) to see how many stations there are in your area.
I use a J-1772 adapter with my Tesla HPWC every day: https://www.insideevsforum.com/community/index.php?threads/evse-recommendations.8985/page-17#post-128076
Out of curiosity, anyone else seeing dips like this in their charging reports? Most of the reports show steady charging but once in awhile I see a dip. Its a Grizzl-e smart EVSE and I view the reports via acharger.ca (web page).
