roof rails side attachment points?

  1. I've only ever had vehicles with side rails that were elevated off the roof, so strapping something on with a ratchet strap was always easy even without crossbars.

If I want to securely mount a roof cargo bag (with six attachment straps), to my 2019 Kona Electric, is there a way to attach to the stock roof side rails? I've popped out one of the six plugs where the cross bars would mount onto the side rails, but there's no easy mounting point, and i think the hook of a ratchet strap might damage the hole in the side rail.

I don't want to put cross rails in, don't think I have use for them and they look like they'd interfere with a cargo bag sitting on an anti slip mat.

Otherwise looks like i'd have to use the "hooks into the car door under the weather sealing strips" solution.
