Regen paddles doing something I don't understand

I think the chart on this page (although talking about the Fit EV), helps explain a little bit of the concept of sharing brake torque with the brakes:

Lets also keep in mind that the regen braking operates only on the front wheels, and presumably some torque is applied to the rear brakes when the brake pedal is used, compared to the regen paddles which (one would assume) do not act upon the rear brakes at all.

Very interesting. The Honda slide showing benefits of new electric servo braking clearly illustrates that regen braking happens before friction braking. However, it's not simply regen braking first followed by friction braking because this slide shows that friction braking occurs both early and late in the process of stopping the car.

I didn't realize there were so many different corporate philosophies about how brakes should feel. The article says that BMW wants regen braking to be aggressive, while Ford wants braking to feel just like a conventional car--isn't that also Honda's philosophy and what Honda has accomplished with the Clarity? It seems Honda's Mr. Hatano is saying that in the article and it's unclear how the Fit EV's braking is more like that of the Nissan Leaf than the Ford Focus Electric:
    > Honda’s Mr. Hatano explained that the goal is to make the brake feel
    > comfortable and familiar—yet the Fit EV will have a “B” gear, providing
    > the driver the choice to engage an aggressive motor-only regen setting,
    > as well as an “Econ” mode that removes regenerative braking in a
    > coasting-type function.

I want the ability to coast like the Fit EV's Econ mode. I don't want the Clarity's ECON Mode to provide zero regen, but I'd like a way to select zero regen using the paddles (for example, by pulling both paddles simultaneously 3 times).

Added: Today, Elon Musk said that Tesla cars would never need replacement brake pads due to the efficiency of regen braking.
