I get your point. It seems to me the requirement is to warn pedestrians but if each make of vehicle has it's own sound I wonder if people will recognize there is a car nearby. It would seem to make more sense for all cars to emit the exact same sound. I've come up behind people in a parking lot, with the sound active, and the pedestrians still don't know I'm there. My wife and I had a conversation recently how ICE cars have become very quiet too. It seems all cars should make the sound, not just electric cars.
It would be nice to be able to turn it up to 11 when I'm driving through deer-crossing territory in my silent car. Actually, the deer would still pay no attention.
