I, too, have been frustrated trying to get that Honda App to wake up the car. Try locating the car with the app. Sometimes, but definitely not every time, this will wake up the car such that you can do things like remote climate control.
4g. AT&T shut down their 3g a few months ago. On the sleep issue, I've also found that "locate" has a better chance of waking it up.
