I have a cheapo OBD ii and used inCarDoc (free iOS app) to read codes in the past. Any idea if it can get the battery capacity? Or only way is to get it from the dealer? I am at 30% oil life so a couple of more months until I visit the dealer.. (free oil changes for life).
Yes. Several people have worked this out recently, though I can’t speak to your particular reader. Search threads for “budget battery capacity”. There have been posts on this in the last few days, so if you can’t find it just scroll down. There is also a thread whose title includes “battery capacity yourself “, which is about using a specific Autel reader. Sent from my iPhone using Inside EVs
Here is the thread you want - https://insideevsforum.com/community/index.php?threads/budget-battery-capacity-readout.10531/ The Autel reader was working via beta test, but it stopped working.
Now I remember this thread from some time ago. Wasn't sure if things had changed since. I imagine it's mostly in the software knowing what to look for.
It's in the software, but also requires that your reader hardware have a big enough buffer. Many of the cheap ones do not but there's a $20-$30 one in the thread that does have a big enough buffer.
