  1. Coutinpe’s comment was, in fact, a response to Jdonalds comment, not mine. We clearly have differing views on what constitutes an overreaction, as I don’t consider anything in my original post to be an overreaction.

I did not assume that you had enough expertise to lecture on PHEV misunderstanding. Thank you for sharing your views on the subject.

It was my intent, when starting this thread, to open a discussion on why the general public is largely unaware of PHEV’s and why, the few that are aware, have so many misconceptions about them.

AH, so THAT'S how you double quote - thanks for the example!

I didn't state that your initial post WAS an overreaction - I stated that it was ABOUT overreaction - of the "knee-jerk" variety: People expressing beliefs based on hard and fast reactions to misguided or under-informed opinions. I have heard comments along the line of "Electric cars? BAH! I've driven a golf cart and I wouldn't want to take something like that on the highway!" and the examples you mentioned brought that to mind.

  4. Thanks for clearing that up. I’d guess part of the above quote is what you’re referring to as being about an overreaction.

To be clear on my part, no one actually said the words in the second set of quotation marks. I used those words to express my perception of their lack of interest in wanting to discuss a PHEV.

I have also referred to some EV’s as (glorified) golf carts, maybe even clown cars. Anyone who drives one must have a sense of humor, so they shouldn’t be offended by such terminology. There have been a number of fun and stupid cars in my past. The preference now leans toward comfort and luxury.

Oh I missed this one! I am very confused. Now I don't know if this is indeed another example of overreaction (as the use of capitals could suggest to a biased observer) or I just probably need to go back to grammar school after failing so miserably while attempting to trace a historic parallel between PHEVs (with both ICE and electric propulsion) and early steamers (still carrying sails and masts in addition to the coal engines) as intermediate steps on the evolution of transportation but ending somehow suggesting that I believe electric cars run on coal and hence I am a perfect idiot. Or even worse, a heretic?

THIS is why we need a "sarcasm font"...
