Doing my first map update. A) for a car purchased a month ago, there is one. B) I love this cheery welcome message from Garmin, with the name that just flows off the tongue. I'll call my map "Honda Bean" from now on. Initial estimate for the download time was three hours, turned out to be about 30 minutes. Almost 8 GB downloaded! I'm going to wait for my next long drive to install it.
The next full release of IOS will include the ability to use Google maps and Waze with Apple Play. YEAH!
Re USB not recognized by car: I had this experience three times at different stages. It was not related to USB size (4/16 GB). Each time, I had the USB in before powering the car up. Pulling the USB out and putting it back in (leaving car powered up) caused the car to recognize the drive instantly. YMMV.
I updated my map now. The car is in the garage, plugged into the charger, in accessory mode. It worked without problems but the 2018 version was what I got. I will check again in a couple of weeks for the 2019 version. I already had Garmin express as I have a couple of older Garmins. Wow it says my nuvi 1450 has several updates available.
Thanks! (Those instructions are: https://honda.garmin.com/honda/site/generalInstructions) I'm starting with step 2, I'm assuming the usb disk is already set since I've already done one update.
Is this free for Canada as well. My dealer told me 4 years of updates for free but I can't find it stated anywhere .
After you are done with the car the first time, you don't need to keep the car ON, just turn off the car and go get the update on your computer, then go back to the car with the updated map. It generally take between 20-30 minutes to load the maps from the USB drive to the car. My car is in my garage so I just open the window, leave the key in the car while the map is uploading and come back in 20 minutes or so to turn off the car (when finished)
It is free in Canada for now, as for how long, who knows... I mostly use Waze on my phone (attched via a magnetic mount on dash) with the BT link so I also get the direction on the drive info screen and also get the voice prompt on the car's speaker, this way I free up the center screen for the energy flow diagram or radio
Update failed after several attempts. Think I accidently interrupted it during the first attempt, now it errors out at about 50%. Time to call the service department.
I didn't even know it did that through Bluetooth, so if you run android auto (not through usb) and are connected by Bluetooth you get the Nav directions in the info near the speedometer?
Right now, to run AA, you need to connect your phone to the USB port at the driver side as Google is still working on Wireless AA. To do what I did, first you have to start the car, then connect your phone to the USB cable (do not start Waze before you start the car and connect the cable first), AA automatically starts on your phone after a few seconds, you press the recent app button and then swipe away the AA app and go back to the home screen and start Waze, set a destination and after the calculate route is done, the next turn information is on your driver info screen (note you need to have set the screen to the Compass/GPS screen, else whatever screen you choose will still be showing that information). Not sure if the Base trim (without factory Nav system) works like this
Thanks for these directions, worked great with an 8 GB stick I had. Slow access through the USB port is the bottle neck here. My download took 2 mins (1Gbps down) then copying files to USB took like 20 mins, similar long time for car to copy files from USB. Process went smoothly. Ideally use a quality USB stick not too large. Fake sticks could have bad addresses on them and might not be advertised capacity.
I have not received this notice. I called Honda cooperate customer service on another issue, then asked about the lousy GPS, and was told the update was delayed until Sept. 15. She told me the update address. Never heard about this. So I called Garmin about getting my neighborhood on the map. They guy checked, said it was now on the map, but could not guarantee that it would be in the Clarity update.....
