I got a notification on my PC this morning of a map update for the Touring model. I successfully downloaded and installed it this afternoon. Since I don’t have the time or desire to drive the entire country I will rely on others to assess the changes.
Clarity is now showing up on Garmin's map updates, with instructions. https://honda.garmin.com/honda/site;jsessionid=41261C5224B59DA62980F70826602BF4
Is this the same update some of us did earlier this year around January/February? Bobcubsfan, there is a Mac version of Garmin Express available in the downloads.
I believe that this is a new update. I did an update in February when I took delivery and then got the notification on 5/11 for an update which I performed. I don’t think it would have downloaded the data from Garmin if it was the same version that was already on Clarity.
Just went to the website above - YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING - start car and Nav app - insert USB and wait until it says process then go to computer - download update (don't turn off the car) go back to car with USB and continue install - anywhere from 1-4 HOURS - with car running all the time. That's ridiculous! So much for upgrading Garmin...
Pretty sure I turned off car after first step. Took about 2 hr to down load on my computer/internet connection. Went back to car and that’s when you have to keep car on until complete.
This was my experience: 5 minutes in the car for the first step, about 45 minutes to download the update on the computer, and about 15 minutes to do the update in the car.
I did my last one while driving. Make sure your trip will be at least 15 minutes. Other functions continue working during the update. You can even have the upgrade happening in the background and use the radio etc.
I just tried to update my map and I can't get my Clarity to recognize a freshly formatted USB drive. I don't know what to do next. I've reformatted the drive multiple times on both a Mac and a PC to FAT32. The computers report the drive is working correctly. The car is even in range of my wifi - don't know if that is even an alternative. I'm not sure what the next trouble shooting step is.
I did an update on our 2016 Pilot and then on our new Clarity. Even though I reformatted the flash drive between the updates, the Clarity wouldn't use the one I had used on the Pilot. The car must be looking at the low-level device name and/or something that the car writes low-level to the drive and won't use one that is "attached" to another Honda. I scrounged up a different flash drive and everything worked as it should. If you previously used that flash drive to update a different Honda, maybe that's what happened. If not, I got nothin'.
Thanks. I've never used the drive on any car, just a Mac. I reformatted the drive on a PC then immediately walked to the car and plugged it in. Turned on the car and car asked me to insert a USB storage device. Dunno what else I can do.
Although I've not tried the Clarity update yet, I went through the same thing on my Ford Fusion when attempting to update Sync3. The issue is likely that your usb drive formatting is screwed up. It often does not work to move a usb drive from one platform to another with vehicle software. Start with a brand new usb drive with native (original) PC formatting. Use that for all the Clarity downloads, backloads, reloads, frontloads, uploads, and blowuploads. I'll bet that will work. To add a humorous caution, note that these software minefields are being brought to you by the same companies that are making self-driving cars
What is the capacity of the thumb drive that you are using? I had trouble using a high capacity (64gb) and used an 8gb successfully.
I've been using a 16GB drive. I'm currently erasing it - writing zero's three times - tomorrow, I'll reformat and try again. If that doesn't work I'll try Sandroad's suggestion and buy a new one.
