Clearly, your dealer is out joyriding around town in your Clarity. They'll call you when the battery runs out of juice.

Scuba, how long have you been waiting, it seems like a while since you posted that you had your VIN

Been waiting for the Base since late Jan, changed to Touring before the election.

Got an offer for a Grey Touring on Jun 25 (around there) decided to get the Red one that the dealer claim it's coming in Aug so I let the Grey one go to my friend who ordered a base in 1st week of Feb. I received the VIN for the Red Touring on Jul 21st, at that time, the dealer said it should arrive around Aug 2-12th. So theoretically I have maximum of 10 days to go. Just checked this morning, nothing indicates when it will arrive

    That shouldn't take too long...

Depends on where the battery ran out when they discovered the gas tank was empty, too.

Similar story. I ordered a base in early April. Assured it would arrive in 3 months. When I didn't hear boo from my dealership after the purchase, I checked in at the end of April. Was told no chance a base would ever be delivered before 2019. Went to Honda Canada directly, was assured that my base was built and was awaiting delivery to Canada, but couldn't provide a timeline because of ocean delivery. (I kid you not). Finally just before the rebate was cancelled was informed by dealership that a Touring was available and did I want to switch, only possible chance for a car this year. Said yes, and was informed in would be delivered in August. Rebate was cancelled, but pending orders OK till September 10th. Dealership knows nothing about delivery, Honda Canada knows nothing about delivery of either car. Finally July 25th got word that their was a VIN now but no delivery timetable except end of August. Good heavens this is stressful and a truly pathetic way to do business. If I wasn't all tangled up with so much misinformation along the way I would have walked. However, in a sense, there is finally a deadline, if it doesn't arrive by Sept 10th I'll walk away. (This is all tied up with a VW TDI return so it's truly been a lot more complicated than I ever imagined).

Did you get the VIN from the dealership? How did you manage to get Honda Canada to give you info on your Base model?

I dealt directly with customer service and explained that I thought it was ridiculous that no one anywhere at Honda Canada would know where potential 10's of thousands of dollars worth of inventory was. Eventually after many many interactions, they indicated that the department responsible for delivery and allocation confirmed that my car been built and allocated to Parkway for me and would be delivered in the summer. (This was June 26th). As the summer progressed and the July 11 announcement happened, I asked for an update since it seemed reasonable that if the car was built and in transit they might be able to update the situation and whether it would arrive in time for the deadline. That's when bizarro land re-emerges. Honda Canada doesn't know this information only the dealership can know this information and I should only be speaking with the dealership for any updates. I explained that the dealership get the information from Honda Canada, and they were desperate for information too. Anyway, long answer, but I was spun back to the dealership who said essentially we have no info on a base model, but have information on the Touring. It very very much feels, as suggested in the beginning of this forum, like bait and switch. I know a few base models have surfaced but in my case even with a "confirmed" base model en route, I'm shifted to a Touring due to the deadline. (as if they have held back the base model in order to force the sale of a touring knowing the rebate deadline)

This is interesting.... maybe they are holding back the base models to release in September after the rebate is gone, hoping the lower price point will still have people buying them without the rebate cash.

I ordered a touring on Feb 22nd. I was the first for this dealer, they had an allotment of three. I have a case number with Honda From June 11 as I was worried about the rebate going away. No news. Ever. Honda also told me I have to talk only to dealer. Dealer has no info. On August 1st, dealer gets email from Honda informing them that there is no car for me. Dealer will call back, I hope with news. During the four months before rebate cancelled I could have ordered another car, but OMVIC rules forbid that. You sign a contract, you are trapped. Now, I can't order another car, and I can't get the rebate, all thanks to Honda. Negligence? I think so.

Sorry to hear of your long story. But like others pointed out to me, there was a clause in the deal that allowed you to opt out after X days. Look for that. I'm surprised you ordered back in February and didn't get it, yet some ordered later than you and were fulfilled. To me Honda screwed up big with this. It looks like they just built cars randomly and not even tried to fulfill orders, otherwise why are cars built that nobody ordered, whereby dealers were able to offer it to people like me. Either that or there is some grand conspiracy with dealers ordering only Tourings and forcing people to upgrade.

I had the same experience. I ordered a Base mid-March and was told Honda sent an email on August 1 with same information you got (no car for me).

I am now going to be negotiating a settlement with dealer, or II wil pursue a legal claim.

I will be filing a complaint for Competition Act violations. Honda seems in clear violation of that, but I'm not sure the case is big enough to warrant attention. I encourage everyone else to do so as well.

Did anyone who had their order cancelled receive a VIN and then a cancellation email?

Not a grand conspiracy. It is just a decision by Honda to make only the most profitable cars (Tourings).

They should have known that they had too mamt unfilled Base orders. If not they are negligent in allowing dealers to sign the purchase agreements. If they did know, it probably a competition act issue as well.

I did order a Touring on Feb 22nd, so that is not the reason. Still, 5 1/2 months to figure out that they don't have a car? They are not treating their dealers right either, as I was the first order at that dealer, never got a car. Many ordered after me from other dealers and got a car. I am interested in legal options. I think that Honda has fulfilled the legal definition of negligence. This has cost many of us $13000 to (in my case as I ordered early enough) $14000.
