Since different dealers are telling different stories, Honda must not have given out official info yet about the completion of 2018 production for the switch over to 2019. Also dealers have incentive to push customers to Touring models, to make more profit for themselves and Honda.
As an FYI: it is end of business day in Ontario where I believe Honda Canada is headquartered and a google search for honda canada news honda clarity for the last 24 hours showed nothing of this news, whatever it may be. I called Ottawa Honda where we have had our car on order and they know nothing. I asked the sales manager to call me by the end of the week, whether there is any news or even if there is no news. So the non responsiveness of Honda Canada is as deafening as ever. Hopefully someone on this list cab find out whether or not production is ramping down, up or stays non existent.
It is all just rumor. With the exception that Honda appears to be filling their touring orders while largely ignoring base model commitments it is all just rumour. I know Canadians are stereotyped for being patient and just living with things but being put at the back of the cue like this does feel disrespectful. My dealer says they don't know and I am OK with them on that.....they are being straight up with me.
So, May 23rd and no news of an update from Honda Canada that i can find. I wonder about carguru, the same cars have been listed for months now. I suspect some dealerships are leaving the ad up to bait people into contacting them. Either that, or the VIN's they list are attached to a demo or sales person's vehicle. Given the demand for th cars, there is no way those cars exist in reality. I'm also curious about Honda's sales numbers and the highest VIN's so far seen in the wild. By Honda's own press release (April)they have only sold 361 Clarities all year, yet the VIN's have reached 525. You would have expected more deliveries than we are seeing. My sales rep emailed me last night and said that Honda Canada is now saying "the week of May 22nd" for an update. I trust the info he's relaying to me and he has been good to deal with thus far. Guess I'll be patient for another few days!
I'm guessing that a few must be sent to all the different Canada agencies to test and validate(crash test), etc... Not sure how that would amount to .
I tried to ask for an update from Honda Canada's Twitter account and I didn't hear a thing. It's been about a week and nothing. It's weird how a company the size of Honda has no clue regarding their supply chain. It's unbelievable and the way they're handling the customer service end is unexcusable. I've gotten responses from every company I reached out to.
Bought mine from another local Honda dealer as new (April 30, vin 187, white Touring) but I know it was from Spinelli and very likely the one you saw there. They lied and said they put 180km to bring it in from Quebec City. The vin and Spinelli sticker say otherwise, plus now your story corroborates this perfectly. Going back to confront them for not disclosing this, and for a couple other things. Looking for a deal in exchange. ...but now it’s mine, and I’m not giving it back...
Just ordered our Clarity from Huntsville Honda. We were told it will most likely be a 2019 and get it in December. We are okay with the wait, sooner would be nice. Just hope the incentives are still good until then.
I have been given a VIN and eta of end of month delivery. last 3 digits 570 Has any one else any updates of a eta/vin or delivery ?
For those that post your ETA and VIN, can you also include when you ordered and what trim you ordered. Heck, maybe colour might be relevant too. More info is better. It makes the info more helpful for predicting/estimating. Sent from my iPhone using Inside EVs
Although I'm later than others, figured I'd chime in. GTA dealer, March 19th, Base Grey. No information on ETA.
I'm amazed at how frequently Honda is running the 30-second happy family in a Clarity PHEV ad on the US TV networks I watch. I see it 3 or 4 times a day. I would not be surprised to learn that Honda simply misjudged the percentage of potential Canadian customers vs US customers and allocated too few to be built for the Canadian market. Honda lost tens of thousands of dollars on every 1st generation Insight sold in North America. Consequently, they made only one TV ad and ran it only a few times. I'm amazed they continued to build it for 7 years (although only about 15 thousand of them) despite the strident voices of the bean counters. The frequency of Clarity PHEV TV ads (and the lack of power seats on the Canadian Touring models) makes me believe Honda did not forsake a profit margin on this car.
I still think that if Honda delivers 500 to 700 clarity by diverting attention from USA to Canada , They can clean up most of back log.
Ordered April 5th at Richmond Hill Honda. Grey or white Touring, whichever comes first. Been 7 weeks, and been told I was next in line (on May 14th) for about a week and a half now. No way to confirm. I asked them about the base model and they said 6 people are waiting. They said they heard nothing from Honda Canada. Might be withholding information, but seem like decent people. They supposedly knew nothing about the update. Only saw two Clarities on the road so far, this year. One was green and one was red, so I'm assuming both were Touring.
I think this commercial is very boring. It doesn't catch my attention. Before I started researching PHEV, I don't even remember seeing the commercial but when I decided on getting a Clarity, then I remember seeing it. I didn't even realize it was a PHEV commercial.
