That's a nice little update. The app seems to ask for feedback quite often. Let's keep giving it to them.
New app just got updated (after downloading I did a force quit and ran it to see the new functionality). The update adds charging history, but not eDRIVE. What the what. Promising though, I guess, since they've added SE-specific functionality.
It's the same info you can see on your car center display which shows distance, efficiency, electrical consumption. Here's a screenshot from my last drive before the old app ceased working:
I never understood the efficiency numbers in the app. 5.5 m/kWh is fantastic. With 28.9 kWh of usable battery that would equate to 158.95 miles, or 95.37 miles on your 60% charge. I suppose the GOM is probably calculating a longer slice of driving data, but still, I remember seeing similar efficiency numbers most of the time.
That 5.5 mi/kWh is one of my best ever, I usually get closer to 4.3 mi/kWh (which is still really good). I think the efficiency is a holdover from the ICE models for fuel efficiency, where it rates things like how quickly you accelerate and how hard you brake. Things that don't matter in an EV. But in one of the menus somewhere you can get the fish bowl on top of the car and can see the splashing water images.
Got my first charging history in overnight, and after you get something it unlocks a whole section where you can add tariffs for times of day. Unfortunately you can't enter the tariffs until after your first charge, and they don't apply retroactively. So my first charge won't show cost. But it did show when I plugged and unplugged, and how many kWhs used. This is a nice feature the old app never had. Strangely though, it doesn't show the actual start and stop times of the charging. The notifications I got said charging started about 00:30 and ended shortly after 03:00.
What the...... mine isn't there. No joke. Now I'm pissed as all get out. Seriously. Going to contact someone asap to find out why.
Yeah my numbers are just a tick under yours, but the one constant is the GOM is always low. Sometimes I'll leave on a trip and it will say 90 miles remaining, for the first 20 miles of driving. If it's a holdover that would be fascinating. I wonder why they wouldn't just remove those factors and tie it to the actual energy usage. I guess software is hard for ze germans.
I gave up on the GOM long ago and use 1% battery = 1 mile as my judge of range. It's almost always too conservative, but at least it's consistent. Now that I think of it, I could help MINI with their software . I'd redesign the GOM algorithm to do a baseline of 1%=1 mile and then all the fancy "driving characteristics" statistical analysis could be used to "add" range to the GOM reading. That way it would never go below some sensible floor.
OK, sorry if this sounds like a rant. It isn’t meant to be. I’m so pleased with my SE. And, I’m so pleased that BMW made the likely difficult decision to bring the SE to this side of the pond. The EU has at least 7-8 small good BEV’s. The US has one. The SE. Not everyone wants to drive a huge pickup or SUV! Looking at you Detroit. About the app. I do appreciate the remote functions, but I can’t figure out how the app benefits or improves my SE experience. What exactly does the Remote History do for me? Now the added charging log is interesting, but I can’t figure out what to do with it. I think a driving log would be even more useful. Perhaps that can be added someday. My question is: how can the app be of the most use and benefit to my SE ownership expierence? Sent from my iPhone using Inside EVs
I use it for 3 things on a regular basis: 1 - Check the charge level of my car. Super useful when I'm too lazy to check if its plugged and how much time I have left to go before it's charged up. 2 - Make sure the doors are locked when I'm away. 3 - Turn on the AC to cool the car when it's parked outside on a hot day.
I do use all of those, and appreciate the ability to check those items. I guess I just want more. For example, being in the desert with a non-A/C garage it gets very hot (and we are charging two cars). So, I reduce the amps to whatever minimum will still charge the car overnight. I wish I could do that from the app. Sent from my iPhone using Inside EVs
Pre-conditioning is the big one for me, then checking charge levels. I also use the car as a giant lock box with the remote lock/unlock function. I can grant access to keys and things.
For me the benefits are: Changing between low cost charging window and immediate charging (I get low rate all day weekends) Activating climatizing in the winter time before departure Notifications of charging state (don't actually need to run app, but it must be set up) Data gathering: (lost) eDRIVE info (new) charging history It also lets you view a digital copy of the Motoring guide, but that might just invoke the separate guide app. You can also use the app to plan routes and send destinations to your car, and it has added searching for chargers. Also there's ways to contact your dealer from the app.
1. Checking battery status 2. Climatizing 3. Checking to see if the car was locked 4. Data (still have access to edrive on old app) I want edrive info on the new app
