With a draft number of 39 in the year it went to ~130 and a family history of military service, it was not a question of if but when. So I evaded the draft by enlisting in the Marine Corps. After a year, I began taking evening college courses as it looked like the Marines were not going to be my long term future. I gained a lot from my Marine service but lost any desire to return except for the early 1980s when local reserve units reported a need for service men.

With an all volunteer service, it is important to give those who serve and those discharged respect for what they did. As for those who carry scars and the dead, respect. To put a draft dodger in charge, a cynical one who can't drive from Paris to the US cemetery, well you get what Putin paid for.

I don’t find Murdoch publications to be credible. It reminds me of one time in the Marines, dealing with a supermarket tabloid.

We had a lady Gunnery Sargent who would bring in the National Enquirer. We tried to convince her it was lying. But she said,”No they have good articles.” So one shift, it was at her desk and I turned through the pages.

I stopped acting surprised and said, “Hey Gunny, there is a article that ‘Blind man can’t see.” She came over to see the article along with the Staff Sargent. My joke had backfired and later, payback was to inventory the data tape library.

If your source of news are owned by Murdoch, go with God who knows even the fallen sparrow.

  5. No matter the reality and what the facts/evidence show, the TDS inflicted will always blindly swallow whatever the fake news media feeds them. We have good evidence of that right here in this forum. There's no point in arguing with these people. You can show/direct them to the real facts, but they will just ignore them and dutifully stick with the narrative talking points they have been given by their fake media masters.

Curiously, we agree except when Murdoch sources are cited.

  10. Yup, another tidbit for the TDSers, and hook line and sinker dutifully swallowed again. Script fits the narrative. Context and further explanation doesn't matter as it might ruin the moment. Pretty shallow and narrow thinking, though, if that turns your crank. But I am not surprised... Following a master is easier for some than independent thinking. That's the MO of socialists and communists. They will tell their subjects how to think and what to do. You will fit in very well.

I have no idea what “TDS” means. The usual practice is to spell it out and then include the abbreviation in “( )”. Let me share some examples:
    • I Be Wilson for Web (bwilson4web) - this is my regular username.
    • Bob Wilson sick’em Web (bwilson6web) - this is the username for bit-bucket untrustworthy email solicitations.
    • Russian Television (R T) - the fraud that Murdoch news copies.
    • Russian Propaganda (R P) - the fraud of Russian bots invading forums to spread fear and deceit.
Trump was recorded saying he knew the COVID risks and lied about it. So too do the Russians.

  13. Since you asked:

Unfortunately many of those most deeply affected don't know it, as they get all their news from others that are also affected. And their masters don't want them to know it. But here is one of their own that gave it this definition. Fareed Zakaria defined the syndrome as "hatred of President Trump so intense that it impairs people's judgment" Essentially it is a mental illness that has their hatred of Trump override any critical or independent thinking. The truth doesn't matter. This link describes it pretty well.

    Yes, it is very real.

And the final straw is this fear:

And to reiterate what I have said in previous posts, I am NOT a Trump fan. But I am also not a TDSer,... or a leftist. Trump was previously a Democrat before he hijacked the Repubs.

Curious takeoff of the Obama Derangement Syndrome or more specifically:
    • <any_name> Derangement Syndrome
Over the years, I've met and even worked with people I didn't really care for. In one example, we had a ASR-33 teletype that could run either in full-duplex, you could type ahead, or half-duplex, each character had to display before entering the next. I would set it up for full-duplex because as a touch typist, I could enter my commands about 2-3 times faster. But a co-worker could not handle it and always wanted it in half-duplex mode, about 1/3d my speed. So I would usually set it back to half duplex at the end of my shift but coffee induced bathroom break, I did not get back in time before my co-worker.

She began nagging me as if I were a former husband about the ASR-33 setting and sleep deprived, I answered in my Marine Sargent voice, "DON'T YOU EVER LISTEN TO YOURSELF?" Seeing the instant fear in her eyes and feeling the heat, I said, "Sorry, I have to take a break" and left the building. When I got back, she was not in our common work area.

I am not proud of that moment but came to realize there would always be individuals whose company I could not stand ... Don Rickles comes to mind. So I learned to keep my temper and only vent when in the car, alone.

Donald Trump's braggadocious speech is an instant turn-off because it is common in liars. His lack of empathy is another turn-off as I've seen that in other psychopaths, some blood kin. It is easy enough to find others who have the same effect on me ... most TV commercials especially by car salesmen.

  15. Your post reminded me of my work time before I retired. I was a senior exec at a multi billion dollar corp, and ran into quite a few psychopaths during my career. They are not uncommon at the higher echelons. Doesn't mean that they were dangerous (in the movie sense), and were often very successful in their roles. However, many would eventually get into trouble and get fired for some very bad reasons.
    https://www.cnbc.com/2019/04/08/the-science-behind-why-so-many-successful-millionaires-are-psychopaths-and-why-it-doesnt-have-to-be-a-bad-thing.html
    https://insightmatters.com/articles/is-your-boss-a-corporate-psychopath
Another common thread is they would go through multiple marriages, and not hesitate to throw a "friend" under the bus if it suited them.

Anyway, at our company we also had a culture of GRID (you can look that up if you want), but it included and supported the practice of "candour without malice". The objective here for the corp was not to let things get swept under the rug, and if there is a problem, it needs to be exposed and fixed. And higher up execs were not exempt or protected from criticism. I liked that culture, and would not hesitate to go after a problem. But needless to say, the psychopaths didn't like me and would attack me personally. However, my approach also garnered a lot of friends and support, and I think helped me during my climb up the corp ladder. The top leaders esp liked my style and often would encourage me, sometimes I think because they were afraid to.

Sometimes after a tumultuous board meeting, a fellow VP and myself would discuss the aftermath in each others offices and very much agree on who the psychopaths are, and what happened. It was good therapy. That VP is now president of the company. I still very much value our past relationship, and have lunch with him from time to time. We also like to talk politics,... haha.

Which leads me to say, that in politics, psychopaths are even more common. And what is really bad, is their very character is what propels them to their political wins. Psychopaths are both very charming, and also ruthless. That seems to be the recipe for success in politics. And it's very true, in politics nice guys often finish last. And BTW, I would say the same thing for many news media reporters.

As for Trump, it would be easy to classify him as a psychopath, as he certainly demonstrates some of the common traits. But where he differs is that he is not so charming, and doesn't hide his true self. What you see is what you get. However, his style certainly puts a huge target on his back for many. And his thick skin, resolve, and counter punching ability makes him a very formidable opponent to those that attack him, including the media. So in my opinion, that is what has led to this extreme case of TDS we see today.

    Interesting collection of videos:
    https://www.youtube.com/c/RepublicanVotersAgainstTrump/videos

    As Jesus said:

As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.

While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples. When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”

On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.

  17. Easy to find turncoats on both sides. There were definitely a few Never-Trumpers that won't forgive/accept Trump for coming in as an outsider and lifelong Democrat that hijacked the Republican Presidential Primary. Ironically, Trump also had a lot of help from the left wing media at the time, who thought he would lose for sure against Hillary. But to their horror, he won. That's what spurred the severe TDS pandemic that followed.

But there have also been Democrats that voted with the Repubs against their party and at least one in Congress that crossed over to officially join the Republican party. But probably the biggest surprise was when Civil Rights lawyer Leo Terrell, who was a rabid Democrat supporter before and anti-Republican, decided just recently to support Trump and the Republicans in this election.

In about seven weeks, we'll have an accounting. We already know from 2016, about 3 million more Americans voted for Clinton over Trump. His popularity has not improved and we are working hard to make sure the electoral college comes closer to the popular vote. We'll know soon enough.

Not yet. But my wife and I will probably vote Tuesday. So far my wallet has voted for Senator Doug Jones.

My wife and I have had our wallet "vote" for Biden/Harris, The Lincoln Project, and Jamie Harrison. I have done some searches. TDS is a made up derogatory term by Donald, that he uses against those who despise him. I could not find any Snopes finding on it. He has also referred to Republicans and former Republicans who oppose him as "human scum".

I missed one quarter of college while transferring from Michigan State in 1969 to Iowa State. My 2S deferment quickly became 1A, "prime meat". I was considering joining the navy (US not the Russian as R P would have.). However, I got a 273 in Nixon's draft lottery. I have no sympathy for our "bone spur" president.

I evaded the draft by enlisting in the Marines. I was depressed from a failed relationship with a young lady. Since Marine boot camp, my life has only gotten better. My catharsis was standing in breakfast line at 5:23 AM and realized she didn’t matter anymore.

The Marines taught me “don’t do THAT again!!” and sent me back to college. But if I have to go into combat, I want the company of Marines.
