I've got no complaints with the supplied Goodyear Eagle F1 AS3. In the dry they have a lot more performance than I am normally willing to use, and in the wet they feel as confident as my wife's car does in the dry. For day to day use, they are more than up to the job. I deflated the tyres to the recommended performance pressure (35 front, 32 rear) rather than the eco pressure (42 front, 39 rear). After nearly 8000km, they still (visually) have most of their tread left - I should really measure them. There is a little evidence of hard cornering, but I would be disappointed if there wasn't
I got to see my car! I can verify that my 2022 has the Hankook Ventus S1 evo3. Is that a summer tire? Yes, I know I can google, but this forum is such a good human “database”!
I had soured on Goodyear a long time ago, but I have the same Eagle F1 tires on my SE and really like them. One thing that still amazes me about the SE is how sure-footed it is.
The Hankook Ventus S1 evo3 is an Ultra High Performance Summer tire, and it is not a run-flat. That makes it doubly unique that MINI fitted those tires to our SEs from the factory.
Zero complaints on my Eagle F1s either (now that it's spring). I loved my last Mini for the handling. This one has it beat though. I swear the Mini was meant to be an EV!
This is my first car without a spare tire. I assume it comes with some type of fix-a-flat spray that will ruin the TPMS if you have to use it?
My SE came with a MINI tire mobility kit, which is sealant and an air pump that can be used normally or to inject the sealant. No gloves, though.
And only the MINI Tire Mobility Kits in MINI Cooper SEs delivered with Power Spoke rims have the special loop/hook of stiff wire designed to pull off the unique asymmetric, aerodynamic Power Spoke wheel covers. Other MINI owners just wonder what that space in the kit's styrofoam block was meant to hold.
I had to use the same type of system on my 3 series and while it didn’t ruin the TPMS, I had to pay the tire repair shop a bit extra to clean up the mess inside the tire/rim. Sent from my iPhone using Inside EVs
Confusing - my salesman went out of his way to say these tires are run flat. But apparently there are some S1 evo3s which are fun flat or others are not. I'll assume that mine are not! EDIT to clarify: I am not a tire person, but google indicates that my "K127" designated tires are not run flat, and that if they were, instead, "K127B", then they would be run flat.
I don't think anyone's said their SE comes equipped with run flats, which is different from the ICE versions of MINI Coopers. And considering the quietness of the SE I personally don't want such noisy tires.
Great news, our MINI went into production today and the winter tires & wheels my wife bought for me were delivered. She says they are my birthday present, so I can't open them until October (or the first snowfall.)
I like those labeled tire bags! I hope your wife confirmed the tires inside are the ones you need. It would be very disappointing to open them in October and discover they're the wrong size or run-flats (my tire guy hates working with run-flats).
I do too! I will eventually be buying winter tires later in the summer. I'm not messing with these tires/rims in the winter again that's for sure. Good comment about run flats. Need to find non-run flats as well as rims I find okay.
In 39 years, she has never bought the wrong part yet, be it for our '65 S-Type, '76 MGB, my daughter's '99 XK8 or the oil filter she had me install on her '17 Mustang GT this afternoon. I am just happy that having the VIN allowed GEICO to quote the insurance at $202/every 6mo for 100 ded comp, 500 ded collision, 500/500/500 liability. Without a VIN, they were quoting nearly $400.
Interestingly my new Mini SE was much cheaper to insure than my old one was. By about 30% percent too IIRC. So a faster 0-60 and a new car cost a good chunk less. My old was a manual which we joke was a theft deterrent
That's not really a joke--most young thieves have no idea how to drive a car with a stick. Now you have a car from which the catalytic converter cannot be stolen.
It will definitely be a lost art as EVs take over. My husband's car is a manual still. We'll let my son learn to drive in about 2 years. Fortunately even though I don't drive one, it's a skill that's hard to forget to do. Still I was shocked to see such a reduction in insurance. This is the first time a new car has cost us less. I'm known for buying sportier cars too.
