A 4680 holds 80 watt hrs of power and costs $4 or nickel a watt hour- nice how that worked out. We will need 6.5 trillion 4680s to cover 24 hours of global reserve capacity. That would take 18 years (2048 if we started with these numbers in 2030) for a cost of 18 trillion $$. Green generation is presently 1/50th that cost for current solar battery backed utility scale. And much grid upgrading won't be needed because much of this capacity will be in the the form of still radically cheaper roof top battery backed generation see Tony Seba- improvement of grid is still vital. Also presuming conservation keeps over all power consumption stable even against growth. So that is less in adjusted dollars than just the TAARP that the super corrupt Bush admin wasted on bailing out fossil fuels and probably half as much as it literally wasted on idiot fossil fuels over a span less than half as long (full term of the admin.) So for a little over a trillion a year from 2030 to just before 2050 we can go zero cabon. Thinking 20 billion a year on generation and match that on grid- about 19 trillion total over 18 years. Of course we have to start right now. And should really 30x that rate and drop the cost of 4680 equivalents to 13.3 cents a piece so storage is $1.66 per kwh or closer to todays at scale green generation costs of about 1$ a kwh and to do this by 2030 so we can have about 200 trillion 4680 cells on line or a month of global reserve by 2048. That's 361k cells a second or 30 MW added storage capacity a second or about 50K$ a second or 180 million a hour or 4.3 billion a day or 1.5 trillion a year- a slight premium. Totally possible especially with paper clip AI. Dirt f-ing cheap compared to the much higher amount we spend on idiot criminal fossil fuel rent seeking to support less than useless unjustifiable oligarchs. Give it 3 years and the Peta factory will be announced, the Exa then those will be repurposed to building out Mars. For about 1% of GGP we can end the reign of a hand full of undemocratic petrarchy parasites and save humans and other species and set up for Mars. Only simple stupid criminality stands in the way- a speed bump.
