Ah, sorry, let me clarify (should have just checked up on the details before my own post): someone purchasing a new vehicle from one dealership has 6,000 miles to take out a new vehicle HondaCare warranty contract from another dealership (again, does not need to be same state). In that case, it will be exactly like you purchased the plan at the time-of-purchase, with coverage from the in-service date. If you put on more than 6,000 miles, it will not be a new vehicle contract, but there there may be other options for used vehicle contract. I do not know what if any disadvantage there would be in taking out a used car contract after the 6,000 miles; guessing it might be more expensive and do not know whether the coverage may be different. Main point: as a reminder, you do not need to buy the new vehicle HondaCare warranty from the same dealer you buy the car from. My advice is to see if you can convince your dealer to just match the internet prices, and save everyone some trouble. I'd think they rather get something for the warranty rather than lose it entirely to another dealership.

  4. The only disadvantage to the "used" plan, afaik, is that its term starts when you buy the plan so that once you've gone past 6,000 mi or 6 months it pays to wait until right before your factory warranty ends because the plan tops out at 5 years. It may also cost $100 or $200 more dollars but considering that you have an extra three years to pay it that may be worth it. The top used plan, if I remember correctly, is 5 years (which gets you to the same places as the 8-year new plan if you buy it at 3 years exactly) but 120,000 not 100,000, so can get you a little bit further in terms of mileage.

If you're going to wait to buy the plan I'd suggest you put a Google calendar reminder in a couple weeks before your current warranty expires but also keep track of your mileage so that you don't hit 36,000 mi and make it impossible to buy the plan

Thanks. I talked to Spreen this morning on the phone. The sales person won't badge. Will try riverside tomorrow. One more question is, did they keep quoted discount even after they agreed to take off dealer-addons? Thanks for help.

The price financed for the car was $30,106.50. At Riverside Honda they left $1399 of accessories which was theft patrol and they "removed the paint protector and wheel locks" from the price but not from the car. Then I was charged tax title and license fees which was like $3000. I qualified for the 1.9 apr finance promotion and I also gave $5000 down payment just because I plan on paying off the car in less than two years after I receive the $7500 tax credit, $1000 from my electric company, and $1000 from state (if not i would only have had to give $2999 down). Also if you do go to Riverside Honda and end up purchasing one, make sure they actually put the body plugs, which are noted in the pre delivery inspection checklist because they did not apply them with me. Don't worry if they don't budge. They'll be bugging you a week after you turn them down.

No problem. Be a little patient if over the phone and wait for them to call you. If in person you don't like the offer, thank them for their time and leave and watch them chase after you (assuming you have good credit).

$34,527.90 OTD would not include interest unless that is what you see in the finance paperwork as final plus interest.
I assume this was the Touring......correct?

Oh I was asking you guys if you include interest in OTD price or not. Yes it was for the touring.

I went with black due to black interior. Would have gone with white if black interior was an option.

I couldn't pass this deal up so I upgraded my 2019 Clarity Base to a 2019 Clarity Touring:
Purchased 2019 Clarity Touring in Platinum White Pearl - $28,501 plus taxes & fees and that is including the Clear Shield Package $395 & Protection Package $995.
Selling/Trading in my 2019 Clarity Base in Platinum White Pearl - $23,788 with only 1,860 miles on, thanx to Covid, it that was purchased for $28k plus taxes & fees in Dec 2019.
End of the day walking away with $$'s in my pocket after the Touring purchase.

I am about to embark on this annual buy-and-flip adventure!

Looks like Carvana and other sites are offering to buy 2019 base Clarities with <10k miles for $23k

With my CA credits of $8.3k, that means I just need to find an OTD price of $31.3k or lower.

    Wish me luck!

  21. It’s a peculiar game.

Can you break down the $8.3K CA credits?

You must have lumped in the $7.5K Fed credit. I believe the CA rebate is now $1000 and requires that the vehicle be registered in CA for 30 months, to avoid a pro-rated repayment. Regional and Utility company rebates seem to have similar requirements.

The crux, for me, would be the undeniable reality that ~3000 of my dollars would be going to the state in the form of sales tax, for the privilege of buying the same car with a few less miles every year, even if it could be demonstrated to be a “break even” deal.

    $7500 federal tax credit
    $800 PG&E credit

    neither of which are prorated.

I don’t get your point about paying sales taxes. Money is fungible, why do you care that some of it is going to the state vs. Honda, especially when you get all of it back in 12 months?

  23. Sounds like you’ve got it all figured out.

    Best of luck.
