Got the Touring in silver it out the door (taxes, tag transfer, "document fees", destination fee) for 37600. Dealer has it in the showroom and on the lot for over 30 days with 13 miles on the engine. It was baffling to me just how little they about the vehicle. I was explaining features and design elements to the saleman.
$2K off MSRP. As far as I know, the first and still the only Clarity sold and registered in Delaware. The two dealers in-state have no clue about this car, and the few they have just sit on their lots with dead batteries.
I bought ours last Dec. Was just told that it's still the only one sold by our local dealer who has 3 languishing. The Clarity is just not selling, which is crazy.
With a fully loaded 2018 Honda Accord Hybrid 2.0L Touring coming in at ~$35K and having tons of additional features like parking sensors, wireless phone charging, head-up display, blindspot monitor, 47 MPG, and a much better display with a volume button, it will become harder for dealers to sell Clarity Touring at or around MSRP. I understand that there is a Tax rebate associated with the Clarity but that is after the fact and will not lower the monthly payments. Also, 2019 Insight (55 MPG) is coming in early Summer. The Honda Hybrid/PHEV/EV Sedan lineup is getting more and more complicated and confusing.
Yes, but the Clarity is the only one of those that can be driven 90% of the time and never even use the gas engine. The Accord is a top-notch hybrid, but it is still just a hybrid. Same with the Insight (which I don't understand the logic there). Zero ev-only range for both of them. For me, that is important.
The dealers don’t understand the cars. They’re not plugging them in on the lots so nobody sees the benefit. From my discussions with them, they still think of this car as yet another hybrid so of course they can’t explain the benefits. I think the only people buying them are those who do their homework or those who meet the rare, informed dealer like that guy in Montreal that did the slideshow.
I bought my touring 2 weeks ago in NJ. Paid 33000 + the crap fees+more crap fees+useless accessory fees.....
We got our base model for 33000 OTD. It came with splash guards, wheel locks, nitrogen in the tires, tinted window glass, door edge guard. Sent from my iPhone using Inside EVs
That's $4500 off MSRP. Even with crap fees (unless it's in the thousands), that's an amazing price. I got $2000 off MSRP last Dec and I was really pleased at that price point.
I expect the Accord and Insight to be terrific cars. With my federal and state incentives plus dealer discount, our Clarity cost about $27000 before tax and registration. That's a heck of a lot cheaper than the Accord Hybrid (no incentives) so I'm willing to live without those few features missing in the Clarity. Besides, I was specifically looking for a plug-in hybrid because it fits our situation much better than a conventional hybrid. At the moment, there's nothing out there better than the Clarity for us. But as several posts by potential Clarity buyers have shown, a conventional hybrid is a better fit for many.
Canada, base model, not white: ~$32K US before taxes. That included all the licensing fees etc. There is a good rebate here too. but we also get the battery warmer but we also need it My sales guy knew all about the vehicle and would have talked all day after the sale was made. Features, the design, how the engine worked. He was really into it.
Our wait time in Canada is around 8 to 12 weeks , more likely 12 weeks and dealers are not giving away no more than $900 off MSRP. Now the Government rebate has now been reduced to CAD $ 13000/- from 7th March 2018.
Agree with your comments however MPG will not matter as much if you plan to drive on daily basis within the 76km battery range , it will be mostly all electric range other than few occasions when engine comes ON , so Battery range will be a big factor, Thanks.
I agree- 10K less than Accord after rebates and you get essentially (90% of most peoples driving) an electric car is a no brainer- hard to justify for just parking sensors, wireless phone charging, head-up display, and blindspot monitor,
I agree too. All I was trying to say is that the dealers are having difficulty selling the Clarity and it will get even more difficult for dealers and confusing for customers with all the new Hybrid options.
This is all Honda's fault (Capt. Obvious here). Seriously, Honda has no game plan for the Clarity, and quite frankly, with 40 vs 50 mpg hybrid mode between the Clarity and Accord, and the Clarity offering 47 mile EV range, there is NO JUSTIFICATION for the hybrid Accord. Heads up displays are a joke (try one, you'll see what I mean) so the only real difference is wireless phone charging (yippee - but I do like it in my wife's Odyssey) and the side and cross traffic monitors (which should be on the Clarity anyway). Whether they add functionality to the Clarity, or squeeze the Accord body on the Clarity frame, there should be only one...PREFERABLY with a hatchback option...
In Canada the Tesla AWD will on the roads by the end of the year. The RWD probably before the Clarity. At the price of the Accord +/- 2K depending on battery pack what would most people want to own? A Tesla Model 3 with 200/300mi range or an Accord Hybrid?
I don’t think you can get a Tesla model 3 for 2K more than the Accord after its optioned out. It will be much more expensive. The base msrp is just a come on.
There is no way you will get a M3 for the price of the highest trim Accord at least for the next 3-4 years. The US base M3 is $35k which translate to about C$50k (with tax and fee) here easily and Tesla is not making the base trim as there are a lot of people getting the bigger battery pack and/or the dual motor option and Tesla will fulfill those first before they will make the $35k model
