I am getting toward 50K miles in my 2013 and the motor is making a lot of noise whenever I touch the accelerator pedal. I would like to hear from people who have had this done. I am especially curious if there are other reasons to do this, besides the annoyance factor, that I should worry about (would help dictate how soon I need this done), and also if there are any costs of the replacement that are not covered by the extended warranty I have.

    Thanks!

Since you have an extended warranty I suppose it doesn't matter, but are you sure it's the motor itself? There were a lot of Tesla Model S's which had a "funny noise" or "milling noise" and had to have the "drive unit" replaced, but generally the problem was not in the motor itself. Reportedly the problem there was usually in the reduction gear.

Modern EV motors are pretty bullet-proof. With only one moving part, there isn't much there to go wrong.

Yeah, it's the drive unit. I made the mistake of thinking that was the same thing.
