Be glad that Honda supports Android Auto and Apple Car Play for no additional charge. Use those, still get turn by turn on dash, and don't have to worry about old design nav interfaces :) Use the included system for offline emergencies.

I received the map update notice and did the download Sept 8. Seems to work fine. Finally two places where the posted speed was not shown correctly by the GPS are now correct.

Has anyone seen a Clarity Map update in 2019? If yes, what is the number? Thanks

How does one have the turn by turn on dash from CarPlay? It has never worked for me.

You're not being cheap. You just refused to be conned by Microsoft scheme.

I updated a couple of weeks ago. Turned off the car one minute after finishing downloading the whatever to the USB drive. Then went to the computer, downloaded and installed the garmin software and downloaded the new maps to the USB drive in about one hour. Then came back, turned the car on and did the update, took like 20 minutes. Morality: No need to keep the car on ALL THE TIME.

Indeed! The way it looks on the advertising I don't see myself using the garmin and/or any other music source unless I am out of cell coverage...

I just finished the update minutes ago. The car does not have to "run," just be in accessory mode. Took about 15 minutes for the download from flash drive to car.

Same experience for me. Easy peasy.

Anyone know why Garmin Express says software is Up to Date but lists map version as 2017.0 and provides no option to update the maps.

My only option under "Map Options" is to reinstall the version already present.

Is it necessary to 'register' with Garmin, giving them email, address, etc before Garmin Express will say that there is a update available?

If five years are included, they should know that 2020 is within five years of 2017.0.

I have yet to find any official Honda document or Honda website verbiage that says anything about “5 years of updates” for the Clarity. Could someone provide the source for that?

    Found on Garmin site.

“Honda vehicles with Garmin Navigation come with 5 years of map updates at no cost. The navigation systems are updated using a computer and our Garmin Express application.”

And the temporarily unavailable notice at the top of that page.

That's just swell. I ignore doing it for two years and now when I finally relent, they've broken something.

In case it disappears from the Garmin site, here is the message currently showing:

"Map Updates are temporarily unavailable for all vehicles except 2018 and newer Honda Accords, 2018 and newer Honda Odysseys, and 2019 Honda Pilots. Please contact product support to be notified when updates are available."

Not sure this has been explicitly covered. Any 16Gb or larger thumb drive should work (i.e. including 32Gb, 64Gb etc.).
There is a trick. You first format for FAT32. See
Formatting a USB Drive for a Honda Navigation System ...

Then, and this is critical, you go plug the formatted thumb drive into your car first. You run the map update in the car. It's under maps, then settings, device settings. Once you do this, the car copies a digital signature of some kind onto your thumb drive.

Then and only then (at least in my experience) does the Garmin Express recognize the drive. You then download the map update onto the thumb drive, then carry back to the car. Yep convoluted as all heck. I really hate Garmin generally, but I don't think those who had problems with a particular thumb drive need a different one. They need FAT32 format, and the signature placed on the drive by the car *before* running Garmin Express.

The link (https://honda.garmin.com/honda/) has the process per vehicle sorted by model and year. The process on the link is correct, but is very specific.

Garmin for Honda's FAQ says updates are only once per year. Mine is currently 2019.0 and claims no update is available. Not sure if that's correct. But yeah, if we only get one update per year, then 2020 may not be available yet. Other Honda models have things like 2019.11 (but unclear if Clarity can use that-- and I'm assuming the 11 is the month but who knows).

I'm starting to hate Garmin too! Something very weird is going on at Garmin. I used the same FAT32 8 GB USB stick as last time, downloaded the update information from the car, went to my computer, the Garmin Express recognied my "Clarity" drive and said there was a 2020 updated map available to download. It "completed" the download but nothing was copied to the drive. I reformatted the stick, went back to the car, repeated the whole process, went back to the computer and Garmin express threw an error when it was 87% downloaded. I then picked a brand new stick 16 GB, repeated the whole process and this time it downloaded the new map without problem. But (Oh surprise!), when I got back to the car to upload the "new 2020" map, it said "this version map is identical to the version already installed. No replacement recommended". So I wasted a whole Sunday afternoon for nothing...

Yes, I had problems too, after a bunch of work it said the installed map was same as what's in there. I also tried uninstall garmin express, re-install, and a new thumb drive. No gotty. (Hence my hatred of Garmin). I presume at some point the 2020 map really will be available, and we'll be able to complete the process.

    My version shows as 2019.0.
