I paid the $25 for the SD card... It worked perfectly and took about 30 minutes. I think it is worth it vs. the hassle of downloading, etc. Certainly depends on the individual owners comfort level. :)

  5. Now I know how to do it, it was easy, just took a bit of time with the new web site coming online. I used the $25 to buy some rib eye steaks... mmmm...

Thanks for the installer - I used that. It was really finicky to get working, but after a lengthy download and manually moving the downloaded files onto my (wiped) SD card that came with my Kia, I loaded it in and let it install and that happened without any issues. Now rocking updated maps and infotainment system!

  8. GREAT!

The car is so new to me I don't know what has changed if anything at all, of course I did it for the updated maps.

If you find new features please let us know.

Well, my wife noticed that when she starts the car up, she hears crickets. She called me and was perplexed as to why she kept hearing crickets in the car...

  10. yeah, same happened to me, I pulled out my USB stick for my music to do the update and forgot to plug it back in, so the Kia went with the nature sounds... crazy!

Yes, I certainly regret starting that up once. Any way to turn it off for good?

  13. nope, and when you hit the media button, it cycles through, so if you are listening to USB already, and then hit media button, it can switch to the built in sound files...

So the Sounds of Nature is a completely awful "feature" that is driving my family NUTS.
The Bluetooth used to connect automatically and things worked fine, now it seems to default to ****ing Nature sounds every time I start the car. I am going mad.

  15. that is strange, did you register ALL the phones in the car? (create different profiles and a default profile).

That should point the car to the main phone...

    ***UPDATE***
I think I should start by saying that I followed the directions shown on this page: https://elmassian.com/index.php/electronics-aamp-gadgets/vehicles/kia-niro-ev. I'd like to thank the author of that page, because without the update file he provided I would not have been able to complete the update. However, I think the directions were specifically geared toward a 2020 Niro EV. I have a 2019. Fortunately, I was able to copy all of the update files from a thumb drive to a SD card I have. I replaced the stock SD card with the one with the update files and re-ran the update. The NAV is now functioning normally. It was interesting, though, that the update did go through using the USB port in the car. However, by doing that, it did not update the map info on the installed SD card. My humble suggestion would be to clarify the directions on that webpage to clarify that it is for 2020 model year, and for a 2019 model year the update files need to be placed on an SD card, and that SD card should replace the original SD card provided with the car.

    ***ORIGINAL POST***
I have a 2019 Niro EV Ex Premium. So, I went through the process of installing the update software, downloaded the update, updater automatically installed it to a thumb drive. Took that to the car, plugged into the USB slot, went through the menus as instructed and hit 'Update' on the appropriate menu. The car went through the whole process - confirming the file, 4 steps to install the various pieces of software with restarts through the process, and everything completed as expected. However, now the car does not recognize the original SD card, and says I need to update the NAV system. Also, there is now no map version in the menus. Thoughts? As of now, I have a non-functioning NAV.

  17. I'll update my site to make it crystal clear... but the Kia site and program gives you the updating instructions as part of the procedure, and is specific to using an SD card for the older models... so please follow the instructions for your car.

    This was on my site:
Note for 2020, there is no longer a SD card hidden behind the little hatch on the dashboard, apparently you use the center USB on the dash.
Clearly for 2020 model year only.

My web page does say specifically it is for a 2020 Niro EV in the USA. I updated it to clarify I am only relating what I did to my 2020, I'm not sure that the site had the correct firmware for your 2019.

If it was me, I would put the files on the SD card and follow the procedure from Kia for updating a 2019 with the SD card. It will probably do so, but again, I downloaded the firmware update for MY model year, I have not explored if it has your 2019 firmware.

Thank you again for the site, the update file and the instructions, it was helpful. I think the misunderstanding might have been that this thread seemed to indicate that the instructions were to supersede the instructions from Kia because people were having various issues when they followed Kia's instructions. It seemed as though the instructions you provided were supposed to replace Kia's instructions in order to prevent problems. It wasn't completely clear to me on the site that the instructions were only for 2020, and that 2019 instructions might be different. I ultimately fixed it when I did go back and follow Kia's instructions on the actual install on the car, so all good. I just thought it might help others to specify USB for 2020 and SD card for 2019.

Nothing to do with the instructions, but It was also pretty weird that the 2019 updated via the USB in the first place, if it's designed to update via the SD card. . That added a bit to the confusion.

Also, if it helps, I can confirm that the site does have firmware specific to the 2019 Niro EV, so as long as the right Year/Model is chosen in the updater, it'll grab the right file. Mine was just over 18GB in zipped form, and expanded to just over 22GB when unzipped to the SD card

  19. Not surprising the car did part of the update from the SD card, I do really wish Kia would get it's act together and get the site working all the time, and they can indeed do a better job of identifying which firmware is for what car.

my site instructions were to get around the requests to open an account or log in...

Bottom line, happy you got your car working...

I downloaded the files and copied them to a newly formatted 32GB Sandisk SD Card. The files were downloaded to a newly created directory on my notebook and I wasn't sure whether to copy the entire directory to the SD card or just the contents. I pulled the original SD card from the 2019 Niro EV to inspect it. Looks like the contents of the folder only should be copied, not the whole folder. OK, fine. However, I notice that the downloaded material includes a the folder subfolder name chain: DATA>NATION>KOR, which seems to indicate that I downloaded nav files for Korea, not North America. I'm hesitant to upgrade with this set of files. Has anybody else seen this problem?

I just did the update on Friday on my 2019 Niro EV EX Premium. The data file I have is DATA-NATION-NA so I would assume you did get the incorrect map data in your download. You have to be very careful about following the directions in this thread and on this site: https://elmassian.com/index.php/electronics-aamp-gadgets/vehicles/kia-niro-ev when configuring the update program. If I remember correctly, there is both a Language and a Region setting that must be selected correctly. I would advise going back into the Updater program and looking carefully at your settings in the menu contained in the little gear symbol at the top right of the updater's window.

  22. Update on getting the update program:

The problem is that right now, you can only download the version that is Korean region only....

So a bit of a revelation, when you try to get the updating software from the update.kia site, it downloads the program: smartupdaterplus.exe .... this is not really the program you really want... but it is where you have to start.

when you install smartupdaterplus, it actually downloads and installs the REAL updater program, which is called NavigationUpdater.exe

Whenever you run smartupdaterplus, it always checks for updates, and as several have found, you are slammed into Korean only.

Luckily, I archived the real updater program, NavigationUpdater.exe, which can be installed separately.

I have version 1.0.32, and just ran it, and it has South Korea, Canada, and USA still and I just downloaded the update files again successfully.

It has the files for 2017-2020 Niro, 2018-2020 Niro Plug in hybrid, and the 2019 & 2020 Niro EV.

So, for those of you who want to try it, you can email me for the program, I'm taking the link off my site, too many people complaining that I don't give good enough directions, and I really am not in the business of support, I'll give it to people who can handle it.

I have two questions. Does anyone know if there is any way to:
    1. Delete Sounds of Nature from the System (Besides Bleach Bit and a Hammer). I hate the Sounds of Nature the same as you Kia Guy. Driving me Nuts! Who needs it? Probably only people in an insane asylum.
    2. Turn off or Delete the car constantly searching for Charging Stations which obviously must use battery power to search thus reducing the Mileage Range. I have a Charger in my Garage and I am sick and tired of the car telling me where I can find a charger.
    Thanks
