I was happy to hear how little the team thought of the "48 V hybrid" vehicles. The sooner that joins the dustbin of history, the better ... along with "mild hybrid."

Tom mentions at the end of the podcast that he knows of some infrastructure plans that are underway. Would it be possible for him to report on these plans or do the companies want to be quiet about the plans?

I know that there have been deals made in the past year or two but there have been zero updates on these stories. For example, the deal between ChargePoint and NATSO. I even contacted them and couldn’t get any information several months ago.

I just want to say that I appreciate the quality and depth of knowledge the four of you demonstrate in your podcast, and in such a pleasant and approachable way.

    Keep it up!

  6. So I watched the last podcast and enjoyed quite a bit. I think I’m one of a few people who prefer the Bolt EV vs the EUV, I simply like cars with a smaller footprint. It’s a shame GM doesn’t offer the same features for the EV version. Maybe they will have a premier version sometime in the future.

Sure. That’s totally fine. The more options the better. I’m just glad seeing more options come about. Hopefully the charging speed of both bolt models will increase after their battery production starts. I’m starting to think that 2025 will be the flagship year where EVs go mainstream in the US.

  9. Thanks! I'm very lucky to have great co-hosts and an audience that tolerates my often terrible enunciation.

  10. Tom begins talking about this at at 1:25:00. I think he may have had EVgo in mind. Though they had made an announcement with GM about their expansion plans a while ago, looks like the actual ground breaking is just now getting under way.

  11. I actually watched/listened to the whole thing, a bit painful actually, as too much side talk. Thank goodness for youtube allowing us to run it at higher speeds. To be honest, didn't learn too much. You guys need to have a better handle on all your facts, for a show like this. Even on the Kona, which has been around for 2+ years, took you a bit to remember what the EPA range was. And the Ioniq 5 info was particularly scanty despite all the recent vids and reports on it so far. And given how long the Mustang has been out, and you guys actually drove it, a real lack of info and strong opinions, either way. Are you guys trying too hard not to offend anyone?

    Anyway, JMO, take it FWIW.

  12. I would just like to repeat, not everyone wants a larger, longer car. If the features were the same or similar I would take the Bolt EV over the EUV every time. I hate car design bloat. Used to be a big fan of the Kia Soul, the new model looks like a school bus.

Otherwise I enjoyed this pod cast and stayed with it up to the Lucid info which I’m not interested in at the moment. In regards to R P’s comment about the Mach E I recall Sean stating that he was only going to give cursory info and for more detail he will have a full review out on Monday. I too don’t learn too much new info but am eager to hear your insights and for that I think the show is fine, could be tightened up a little and a shorter runtime but I think that’s the difference between a live podcast and an edited YouTube show.

    Thanks for the content.

Increased CAFE requirements mandated by the government is what is driving those technologies. I wouldn't buy either personally.

I saw that, but I was saying more generally about all the other deals too.

  15. Appreciate the critique, @R P . My bad on the Kona range, for sure. I was going to just say about 260 miles, but I know how people like exact figures, so I threw it out there and Tom remembered it was 259. Guess I need to spend more time in the Kona sub-forum and/or get a brain tune-up.
There were a number of things I didn't mention about Ioniq 5 -- towing capability, etc. -- but I thought we spent a good bit of time on it and felt we should move on so we could get the other stories covered too. Maybe I should may a list of things to include with every new vehicle intro. Range, charge, power output and performance/efficiency numbers, for sure. Please feel free, anyone, to make suggestions about what you'd like to hear regarding new EV debuts.
Regarding Mustang Mach-E, I was really impressed, but I also only had about 30 minutes with it. Sean did bring up some criticisms. From what I'm hearing, it does fall down on charging somewhat, and I expect we'll cover that aspect more coming up. The early cars the others got to drive were pre-production, so we didn't want to hammer them on something that the vehicle that buyers get didn't have issues with.
Kyle should be back with us this week, so we'll make sure some people, at least, get offended. :D

I really enjoy the podcast and it's something I look forward to every week. I think you guys have good chemistry going on. Only minor complaints are that sometimes I feel like Martyn gets ignored a bit too much, you ask Tom and Kyle for their thoughts but not Martyn. I think each member should give their thoughts on every subject that is being discussed...it may push the podcasts a little bit longer but that's not a bad thing.

  17. Good point. That thought entered my mind today as we were deep into it. The past several episodes, Martyn's been dealing with a throat issue, so I've tried to go easy on him on purpose. He's also doing all the image and video sharing and screen switching. But, you are right. He is super well-informed on the topics of the day and brings a unique Euro perspective to the team. Will try to get him more mic time.
