  1. Ho Boo, please put a complaint with NHHTA and NTSB. Dealers have no clue, Honda denies everything. The more people complain about this issue the more chances we have to get the car recalled.
I brought my car a couple days ago (11 issues: high rev, HV and HV charge not working properly, engine turning on while on EV...) they had told me there was 3 updates, the service guy found 4 recalls in his system. I picked the car up, first 10 miles it was a complete different car, super silent while on HV charge (I asked twice to charge the battery, they still gave it back with dead battery). After that the issues came back along with new ones: engine turning on and off, extreme revving while on HV. This has been going on for 6 months, 3 dealers, 5 tries. Honda has no clue on how to fix the issue.
PLEASE post a complaint about the extreme rev and loss of speed with NHHTA and NTSB.

  4. When you are on the freeway at 70mph and your car suddenly goes on high revs like being stuck wide open in first gear and your speed goes down to 36mph I call it a problem.

Just curious...what is the build date of your Clarity? Asking for no reason except may be good to know build dates for anyone who has this problem to hopefully/maybe narrow it down? Common thread perhaps?

Have you gotten any response from the government watchdogs? This should get Honda USA attention.

What amazes me is the gall and the arrogance that both Honda USA and their crackerjack dealer network display when someone like you comes forth with obvious concerns and they act like you're a bother. Despicable really.

Like you stated in another thread...lets hope no one is seriously hurt or worse.

No Honda fan boi's need to jump down my throat...yes...I realize there are some good Honda dealers out there...plain fact is they are few and far between like any other auto manufacture. Sad part is, the customers who have to deal with these shady losers pay the price.

    Good luck.

  6. The car was built 12/2017, I know your car has the same issue with high rev, when was yours built? Maybe we have the same "bad batch".
    No news from anyone...
After the 4 recalls the revving is back but not as extreme like 1st gear wide open (more like 5000 pm) but still very sudden and loss of speed! I also have another issue with the engine turning on while on EV and once it does that the only way to stop it is to turn the car off. Yesterday on my way home I had to do that 4 times!! I thought I was going to blow a gasket.
Brought the car to the dealer (6th time now) and of course it did not do it. I had sent videos and photos to the manager and asked him to call Honda to see if they could bring that specialist I had been promised and arbitrator required, Honda says until the dealership can duplicate it they will not send anybody. I told them to keep the car for a week and have the manager drive it everyday instead of his Clarity, he said he has to check with Honda again. What a joke. Honda sucks, dealerships make no effort and I am stuck with my POS car.

  8. Please put a complaint with NHHTA and NTSB, it is the only way we will get the car recalled!

  9. You should not have to do that! Please put a complaint with NHHTA and NTSB.

  10. Lash, how is your car doing? Still have the high revs? Please put a complaint with NHHTA and NTSB it will help.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

This great info. The high rev low power happen to me on Christmas with 6 mile of EV range left. I was Going at highway speed in cold 14F. Mine is canadien car receive in June. I was in HV mode .

Another issue is fit and finish. My driver side pillar (between driver window and windshield) seems to be installed poorly, not properly aligned (has gaps) compared to the right pillar. Is this something I can easily fix? If so, any tips how to remove and realigning it successfully?

Check out the Dashboard Rattle thread. People removed the trim on the inside of the A-pillar to stop a rattle from the trim or the speaker mounted there.

Actually the dash is about 1/2 inch lower on the driver's side near the front. You can tell by comparing where the dash meets the windshield with the dash on the passenger side. It's a installation issue.

Several folks have had this issue but Honda USA refuses to recognize this as an issue. Several folks have said dealers don't do anything about it but one fellow was successful in having his dealer fix it while another owner fixed it himself.

Try Honda USA and see if they will help. It's an obvious defect but getting any American company to admit anything is next to impossible these days even with photographic evidence.

    Keep us posted.

    Good luck!

Now that you mention it I do notice a rattle on in the pillars on poorly maintained roads. Thanks for the tip.

I think I will try them.

  20. I’d like to add another data point to the mix since I seem to be an anomaly on this forum. I don’t have regular access to charging and drive my Clarity in HV mode with 2 bars the vast majority of the time. I have over 12 thousand miles on the car, which includes multiple 500+ mile trips, long hills (though not mountains), and many miles in below-freezing weather and snow. I’ve experienced unusually high revs maybe a dozen times, “angry bees” once or twice, but never loss of power.

For those of you that are experiencing power loss at or above 2 bars, that is definitely not expected behavior. The only case where I believe Honda expects a power drop would be if you’re climbing a literal mountain and your battery drops below 2 bars.

Has anyone seen a drop on their H70 fill-up range? I have a 2017 Honda Clarity FCV and love the vehicle. Use to even get 370 mile range on some fill-ups during the summer season. Now as winter has hit, I am lucky if I get 285 range on a complete fill-up. I recently had my A01 maintenance and the dealer was at loss as to what is going on. Next step will be to reach out to Honda America if I cannot get a resolution.

Many thanks in advance for the replies ...

That’s only a 23% reduction in range and would be consistent with colder temperatures and use of heater and defroster. Batteries are not as efficient at colder temps and the cabin heater uses a surprisingly large amount of power. We PHEV Clarity owners (especially those up north) have seen even worse reductions in EV range in winter. If it’s not a problem with the FC, then try reducing heater use by using the seat heater which robs much less power from the battery.
How much did the temp go down and how much are you using the heater?
