2019 Honda Clarity - Price Drop?

OK - that’s trivial.

‘round these parts, $499 seems typical.

 

My niece lives in Oakland and is a member of Costco. I'll let her know about this. Really quite unbelievable and tanks the resale of used Clarities.

 

Any more info on how to reproduce this would be great (or if you could provide some sort of receipt - of course any personal info blocked out). I'm in bay area and considering getting a second one (we just bought one a month ago for 31K and thought that was a great price). Or even which dealership you went through

Edit this also seems like an official price drop as the one dealership I contacted verified the 6K incentive

Looks like there is $6000 dealer cash in CA and OR, maybe others, but not the several other states I tried. If you go to the Costco auto website and search for a Clarity using a CA or WA zip there is a “Rebates & Incentives” section that doesn’t exist of you use a zip from another state. (At least not the states I tried.)

 

I’m still pretty convinced that Honda is no longer selling the Clarity outside of a select few states. Most of the country simply cant buy a 2019, and never will be able to...that’s why the incentive is not nationwide. The car simply isn’t sold nationwide any longer.

What I understood was that a new rule change meant you have to sell in ZEV states for credits. Previously you could get credits outside those states.

 

Can you combine with 0.9% APR that Honda offered before? The APR worth about $2000.

 

CarGurus can't find a 2019 Clarity PHEV in Michigan, but there's one at Jay Honda in Bedford, Ohio, and one in Montgomeryville, PA. Lots of them on the east coast in NY, NJ, and MD.

 

I just remembered, GM is offering over $6000 off on Bolt MSRP. It's on their website.

I've been shopping for a base model in Chicago. So far the unnegotiated internet price for the Base ranges from the $31k to $31.9k including the destination fee. Does not include TTL. I wonder if this can be negotiated further?

Is this a good price for a non-ZEV state? With Tesla Y at $32k and this being a 2018 vehicle, what should I estimate for the current depreciation discount?

Being from Bay area, this is sad, as folks will probably pick up Tesla than Clarity. I guess Honda wants to capture/(re) the market. This will pretty much kill the clarity as it will not be viable long term. Plus, this will devalue the car by atleast 5k!

I think I finally understand why BMW to every single manufacturer racing into EV market. The population is urban-centric across the globe(220mill in USA itself) and they are preferring to one of the cars as EV. It will simply cannibalize the sales as batteries become more cheaper.
There is no way a plug-in can compete at that price in future(engine, drive train costs).

 

Model Y base is 38k and it not going to be available for another couple of years. There is federal 7.5k tax rebate on the clarity now, which is not going to be available on the Y. So, there is pretty big price difference.

The 31k seems to about the average price, unless you can get one in CA or OR, which is the point of this thread.

 

I rushed and got my 2018 Clarity 48 days ago with what I thought was a limited time good deal. Plus finding the black touring I wanted was getting harder and harder to find. Now I am wondering if I should have waited especially since my CRV lease still has until May 11th and plenty of miles.
