Tired of the Citroen references. If that's the best we can come up with, it proves the Clarity is ugly. Which it is. But there is so much more to fender skirts. I loved @MrFixit Lincoln photo...a fabulous looking car. So following is a car show...one of rear fender skirt history...in completely random 10 minute Google searched order, and by no means comprehensive: 1934 Packard 1940 Packard 1947 Cadillac Series 62 1949 Kaiser Vagabond 1950 Ford Custom Tudor
1977 Pontiac Bonneville 1980's Cadillacs 1994 Buick Roadmaster 1994 Cadillac Fleetwood Now I vote. Based on all of above, I rate the attractiveness of the Clarity right between the 1977 Bonneville and the 1994 Buick Roadmaster. In other words, fender skirts can look REALLY cool, as proven beyond a shadow of any doubt by the vast majority of the above vehicles. But my Clarity is indeed one ugly car.
Great lineup @craze1cars! Back in 2013, after driving gen-1 Insights with their fully faired rear wheels for 14 years, I was hoping my next car was going to be this 2013 Honda Clarity Concept. It's interesting to see how many features of this car were toned down, but still evident in the actual Honda Clarity Fuel Cell, Electric, and Plug-In Hybrid cars. Even the angle of the bottom of the fender skirt is the same.
@craze1cars, Wow You have graphically demonstrated that it's not the Clarity that is weird with it's fender skirts... Apparently it's everyone else that doesn't have them who are weird. Back to the Future.
Many of those vehicles will be in car collections and museums for years to come. All but a few had style. Few new cars today are worth a second look. Honda couldn’t decide to fish or cut bait, so the final product is a visual turd.
We owned a 1979 Saab. As the saying went, "If you own one you're the only one that does for a 30 mile radius." We loved that car. The best highway car we've ever owned. The only problem was no one knew how to work on it. Kept it for 11 years before it gave up the ghost. An amazing number of people thought it was ugly.
Whenever I see a Nissan Juke, I'm happy my Clarity is prettier than that car. Over the years, my Clarity has grown on me, but it's certainly not beautiful. But what's up with Honda keeping their best designers locked up in the basement?
Citroen DS has been voted one of the top car designs of the 20th century (third place, ahead of Beetle and 911). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Car_of_the_Century Clarity has obvious influences from Citroen CX, however.
Award referenced is “most influential”. Using the term “Top design” is a stretch in my opinion...lol...cuz 4 out of 5 of those cars that made up the top five are straight-up UGLY.
I love my black Clarity! The Prius (odd lips) and Chevy Bolt (intestines as brake lights) earn the ugly crown in my book.
