From my experience, contacting dealers without making a serious offer has rarely been productive. They typically just reply with their "internet sale price". However, I've found most dealers willing to engage if they believe I am serious (as in they have a chance to land a sale). I'd put your best quote in front of them and ask them to match or beat it and then repeat with another dealer. (at least that strategy has worked for me).
So here it is. The most anyone has paid for this car drumroll...,,,,,,,, i paid full retail @$37495. With taxes and all that it was about $43000. Hope this makes some of you feel better. I can only blame myself for trusting the dealership as i assumed it was offering fair price. The only thing that prevents me from jumping off a bridge is that i really like this car. Actually may i say i love this car!
winner winner..... Which dealership? So we know never to go there... So, explain. Did you not do any research? Did your parents not teach you about the dreaded sleazy car salemen? Were you born yesterday? Glad you love the car. Good luck. Please check out the other posts regarding extended warranty and accessories... Sent from my SM-N950U using Inside EVs mobile app
I used an internet purchase strategy over a two week period. It was fairly methodical, following this site’s procedure: http://www.realcartips.com/guide/newcars.shtml You take the lowest price and follow-up with the other bidders. Most of the Florida dealerships loaded the car with $2,000 of unnecessary extras and simply weren’t willing to negotiate much. Many of these cars were built in 2017 and have been sitting on their lots uncharged for over 9 months. I’d like to purchase this car, but I’m too cheap to spend $3,000 more than what others have paid.
Haha yes to all above. I was in a hurry and my brain was malfunctioning. I trusted the salesperson to give me a fair price. It was capitol honda in san jose ca. It was mostly my fault for being in a hurry and thinking the salesperson was looking out for me. I will just deal with it. If i were not to get the $7500 federal $1500 state and $500 pge rebate i would be more pissed. The car is also amazing which minimizes the sting a bit.
Arizona: So finally pulled the trigger. Started with TrueCar price and it went a bit sideways but still ended up buying. 2018 Honda Clarity Base - Arizona (Non-Zev State) | No Trade-in VIN: JHMZC5F1XJC018XXX (note high VIN #) MSRP:$33,400.00 Destination: $895.00 Dealership Add-ons: $698.00 (Tint, Clear Guard, Nitrogen filled tires, OEM Rock Guards, OEM Wheel Locks, OEM Trunk Tray) Paint Protection: $399.00 (Free reapplication every 6 months) Discount: -$3,401.00 (or $2,304 off MSRP and no cost add-ons that were still fully included with vehicle) Discounted Sub Total: $31,991.00 (including Destination Fee) State Taxes: $2,686.16 Dealer Doc Fee: $499.00 Sub-Total: $35,176.16 Governmental Taxes: $621.12 Reg/Postage/Tire: $16.50 Government Certificate of Title Fees: $4.00 AADA FEE/Title Process: $11.50 Out the Door price: $35,829.28 Federal Tax Credit (Potential) -$7,500.00 Net: $28,329.28
I think the biggest hurdle is having an address to register to, in the ZEV state. Insurance should be issued to this address as well. I don't think you will be double taxed.
I asked too, hoping it was a clear bra, but sadly it is just what Rest-of-the-World calls Splash Guards. Name change never occurred to me. Ha!
Here is what I paid for a Touring model in Georgia: $34,985 Clarity Touring + $793 Dealer Accessories (Tinted Windows, Mud Guards, Wheel Locks and Trunk Tray) + $599 Doc Fee + $159 E-File + $3 MVWR + $18 Title ------------------ $36,557 $ 2,557.52 Tax ------------------- $39,114.52 Net Sale - $5,000 Down Payment -------------------- $34,114.52 financed for 60 months at 1.9% + Dealer delivered the car to me free of charge direct to my home. I declined the extended warranty, but did purchase one online for less from another dealer. Overall I am pretty happy with the deal - however, I think I could have gotten the 0.9% financing with my credit score. Doesn't bother me too much, as I am planning on paying off the loan prior to the 60 months. I just wish the State of Georgia wasn't so backwards when it comes to EV's / PHEV's - State used to offer a rebate. Now, the only thing you can get is $250 from Georgia Power to have a Vehicle Charger professionally installed.
Honda's financing rates: 0.9% for up to 36 month and 1.9% up to 60 months. If you would have gotten 36 months, it would have been 0.9%.
That is what I thought too, but reading through this thread - it seems other folks here were able to get 0.9% even for 60 months.
For people in the SDGE service area who are CA teachers or first responders there is an additional rebate at purchase. https://chargehub.com/en/SDGE/teachers.php "Unfortunately" enough some may also qualify for low income EV benefits too.
Clarity Touring Solar Silver $33,836 + fees = $37,017.24 OTD Dealer financing 0.9% for 60 months No accessories, no extended warranty. Purchased from Long Beach of Honda, SoCal.
Base model in San Jose CA = $30,700 - with Tax and all charges out the door price = $34,395 - this was with financing at 0.9% at 60 months
Don't beat yourself up. Car dealers in my area really weren't interested in dealing either due to the fact they knew we were getting $12.5k in incentives. I basically just got my all-weather floormats and a full, extended Honda factory warranty thrown in for MSRP. I'm not disappointed.
