The dealer quoted me 2500 and I gave him a look that meant “**** off”. He dropped the price for 10yrs 100k to 1300. I took it
Not if you owned a couple of Suburban's with blown transmissions and a Toyota with motor mount issues. YMMV.
I might be interested in a Honda Care 10 year service contract. That’s a long time. Where did you get one from Honda that long?
Sean, the internet manager at Hyannis is pretty good. We live just a few miles away and the whole dealership seems first rate.
I'm going to buy the D80, $0 deductible, 8yr/100K Honda Care warranty at $1304 for my new Clarity via Hyannis Honda.
Agreed. That's the problem I have in spending the money. I've never bought an extension and our 1984 Accord, 1998 Dakota, 2002 CRV, 2005 Accord and 2005 Highlander have not had a problem that a 10yr 100k service contract would have fixed. The only reason I've considered it is that the Clarity is very different technologically from those other vehicles. geo
If you really intend to keep it for a long time, or pass along the inheritance early, then the tech alone is a big consideration
Bought my Clarity yesterday in Northern California. Thanks to all the knowledge I gained from this forum, I went prepared to reject any Honda Care and go with the plan from Saccucci Honda ($1475) unless dealer's quote was close enough. Dealer initially quoted $2500 but brought it down to $2000 after long persuasion. Per the dealer, CA vehicles are manufactured differently from other states due to the stringent emission standards. Therefore, Honda Care bought from another state does not cover any claims related to exhaustion systems made for CA. They have had several claims rejected in the past due to this. Does anyone know if this is correct? Is this why Hyannis does not cover Honda Care for CA?
Wouldn't that mean "Honda Care is "Honda Care except in CA?" Hard to believe Honda has different warranties for different states.
This is an instance where I would have loved to call Honda Care while sitting there with the finance person to call the bluff. There may be some truth to some of what you were told, but the part about Honda Care not being universal sounds like hooey.
Bogus information from a car dealer. What a concept. https://ww2.arb.ca.gov/resources/fact-sheets/california-vehicle-and-emissions-warranty-periods The California ARB requirements for PZEV is 15 years/150k miles - the battery must be warranted for 10 years/150k miles. CARB emissions requirements are essentially what EPA (for now anyway) signs off on. 25 years ago, however, this was not the case. Back then some emission system parts were quite different for California. There may still be a few emission system parts that are different for CA owned vehicles - but these vehicles are more than a decade old by now. The dealer is either living in the past - or more likely - pumping you for more money.
Was just quoted $2,700 for 6 years/120k miles with no deductible. Seems completely out of whack based on what I've seen here.
I'm completely spoiled by our previous cars. I had a 1997 Civic that had exactly one problem over 20 years. Maintenance costs were no more than oil changes and the prescribed maintenance. The 2003 Honda CR-V was perfect until my wife totaled it in 2008. Our 2005 4Runner we bought used in 2009 has also had exactly one problem (aside from needing the fuel cap replaced twice). The two Prius had zero problems from 2008 to 2017; I mean not even a loose screw. Our annual budget for car repairs far exceeded our actual cost for these many years. I'm hoping the Clarity follows that pattern. No maintenance contract for us.
If you’re not in California, Hyannis Honda has rhe lowest prices and will give you a written quote with a confirmation number on line. Take to dealer to match or buy it on line. It’s the same Honda Care and the D80 (100,000 miles/8 yr) was $1,304. My dealer tried to sell me a third party warranty and didn’t mention Honda Care until I said that’s what I want. And his quote was $2,550. I made them match the Hyannis price. They don’t care about you, only about making the most profit.
I was thinking. If I had purchased a $1,500 maintenance contract for each of those cars it would have totaled $9,000 including the Clarity. Quite a sizable sum that could pay for repairs beyond what insurance would cover. I guess I'm self insured. Many years ago we switched to Honda and Toyota after having a series of unreliable cars from other manufacturers. It has paid off.
Thanks, just in time! I was planning to go back to the dealer to see about an extended warranty. They offered one when I bought the car, but it was pretty pricey, and I wasn't sure if I would like the car that much (never had a hybrid before). But after driving it a few days, I really liked the Clarity, so I figured I should get an extended warranty. Life an work has gotten in the way, and I hadn't had the chance to go back to the dealer yet, and then I saw this thread, just in time! Thanks!
Hello... newbie here and not even one yet as I have not yet taken the plunge into a Clarity. In any case, we also own an Ody (had a previous one) and used to own an Accord. I've always got Honda Care. Used to do it with Bernardi, but they stopped selling once those lawsuits came out. Now Steve with Hyannis is my place to go. Question now is how many years would I get. I'm still debating on leasing it vs purchasing (more inclined towards the latter now) but not sure how long I would keep it and how many miles to get as I don't put in that many...
Included Roadside assistance offsets annual CAA cost if you're a CAA member. Also, with the extended, the roadside gets a boost to include car rental the repair time exceeds 5hrs or they don't have the parts and tire road hazard. https://www.honda.ca/owners/warranty/honda-plus/roadside-assistance
Would it make a difference to buy the extended warranty right now Vs buying it a few months before the 3-year manufacturer warranty expires?
