Does anyone know how to get at the expansion bottle? Does the shroud just pull off, are there some fasteners that need to be removed? Looking through the tiny hole (why isn't it bigger) with a flashlight, the bottle is empty
What is your objective? Is it to measure the fluid level? If so, using a dowel rod or something similar as a dip stick may help you out.
You have to remove the black shroud above the radiator, in order to access the ES coolant tank. It's held on by a set of plastic push-fasteners. I've had luck checking the coolant level by shining a flashlight onto the tank, through the front grille, while looking at the tank from above (and vice versa). If the level is low, the coolant has gone somewhere. If it leaked into the battery module, that'll need to be taken care of (or could cause severe damage to the batteries). Our 2018 car's ES coolant level is close to the LOW mark when cold.
Our 2018 Clarity has had the ES coolant just above the expansion tank low mark since the February 2018 purchase. I just check that the level does not change. LP
@Pete H. Below is a link that you may find useful. There is a older thread "Low High Voltage Battery Coolent Level" which discusses this issue. https://www.insideevsforum.com/community/index.php?threads/low-high-voltage-battery-coolant-level.9247/page-2#post-190858 Hope this helps.
