We bought a Kona Electric for our typical day to day needs, but sometimes we need more cargo space for weekend adventures. Class 1 hitch, a $99 aluminum Princess Auto hitch mounted cargo carrier, a $49 cargo bag from Amazon helps solve that! Being in the slipstream, it doesn’t seem to impact efficiency much, doesn’t obstruct vehicle lights or the plate, still able to open the hatch. Two adults, two kids, full hatch, cargo bag full, still got 15.5kwh/100 km with 80-110km driving!
It’s rated to 300lbs. todays load was a cooler, a pop up sun shelter, a outdoor blanket, and a bag of beach shoes, towels etc. nowhere near 300lbs
We've had great luck with our hitch rack on the Kona. Took our kid to college that way. (Had a dorm fridge and a few full bins on the rack). Didn't notice any decrease in efficiency.
It looks like sturdy enough. My friend might like that for his incoming Kona. It's in the shop for the installation of the new tires from 4Wheelonline, plus the alignment. He'll do some mods next.
