I really have little confidence in charging cost off the Supercharger Network. Unless something major changes when it comes to DC Fast charging cost, my next car will be a Tesla.. Maybe Model Y or the Cybertruck to be free from worries about DC fast pricing..
I would say we stay in tier one until EA, Hyundai fixes the charge speed where Kona electrics don't get sustained 75kW.More importantly, NO more time based charging fees until it's legal to not deliver a gallon,or liter of gas.
I just signed up for the new Hyundai program. Thanks to all of you that posted and alerted us to this significant cost change.
I don't see why they can't just offer what gasoline fuel pumps have always offered. You have a manual selection of different fuel grades. You can pick regular, premium, etc. Why can't EA simply offer the same level of control on their stations? Those in a hurry can select the most expensive grade (fastest charging speed in this case) while those who have time (going to eat for example or starting with a cold battery) can settle for < 75 kWh speeds and save some money. Of course we would all prefer per-kWh billing but at least this method would make per-minute billing tolerable.
It's more money for them if they force you to buy "premium" just because your car can handle premium..
Yesterday I needed a charge, and I thought I would try EA with the new Hyundai deal. The first charger I pulled into was turned off, so I needed to move the car... The second one I pulled into was on, but the cable wouldn't reach, so I needed to reposition the car again... I plugged in, and then got my phone out so I could start the charge, and before I did anything, I noticed that it was starting to charge the car. That was weird. Didn't use a credit card, and my phone wasn't close enough to the charger for it to see anything. So I sat down in the car, watched it charge, and made some phone calls. I got up to about 80% - the charger listed the "price" as if it were the 60 cents a minute thing. I stopped it, and then went on to my next stop (the grocery store). Later I checked in the EA app - it shows no charging activity at all - the only charge was a 10$ wallet auto-fill. And I saw nothing relevant charged to my credit card other than the auto-fill. If they had somehow charged me for this, it should have been more like 30$ or so. I did notice that EA turned off monthly fees for the time being. I wonder whether they screwed something up so we get free charging instead..
Model Y specs, and real ones have now delivered. From what I have seen on youtube. The Y lacks: heated steering wheel, hitch,no moon roof,no XM option like the S. It is the reason I bought the Kona electric when the Y wasn't available,it has all these features that I like, and the form factor. The frustration, charging infrastructure.
I never even turned on XM on the Kona. Don't care for it.. I stream and sometimes listen to local talk radio. Heated Steering Wheel is something I would never use here in Florida. Never cared for moon roof but I would like to see a EV convertible.. Most of my cars used to be convertibles.. Corvettes, Mustang etc... I wish someone made an EV convertible.. Well, there is the Tesla Roadster but it is not in my price range. Got to be under $70k.
