Hi! Sorry to hijack this thread, as most are talking about the PHEV. Just picked up a 2018 Clarity Electric and am wondering if there is a list of Service Bulletins that apply to the Electrics? Thanks, GHTech
You certainly are NOT hijacking this thread. Anyone interested in any Clarity is certainly welcome here (trolls excluded, of course). I read every post and I don't believe any Clarity Electric drivers have mentioned any service bulletins for that car. I wonder if the lack of the Plug-In Hybrid's complexity makes the Electric less prone to the kinds of problems that require updating for the hybrid? However, I don't remember reading about any service bulletins for the Clarity Fuel Cell, either, and that's probably more complex than the Plug-In Hybrid.
Hi! The other possibility might be the quantity of Clarity Electrics out there. It is available only in California and Oregon. Most cars are sold within a few hours of hitting the dealership. Mine was made 11/18 in Japan (so shipping time needs to be factored in) and the VIN ended in 000648. It was at the dealership for a day or two only. Regards, GHTech
Those Clarity Electrics are lease-only aren't they? Were you on a list at your dealer or just lucky to find one on their showroom floor?
Hi! Yes, lease only and no option to buy at the end. One is also given a long document from Honda saying that information from the Clarity Electric is transmitted to Honda, etc. If one moves out of CA or OR, then you may have to terminate the lease, as the dealers outside those states are not trained to maintain the Electric. I guess most dealers do have a wait-list, but I get the impression that they just call everyone on the list, and whoever gets there first gets it. I had contacted the dealer that I got mine from about a month ago, and the salesman who handles EV said that there was no wait-list, and that I need to just monitor the website. But, it looks like they don't even bother to list it, as mine was not. Anyway, I had seen someone mention on another forum saying that this dealer is suppose to get some that week, so I contacted them. They had one left, and the color I wanted. This was Galpin Honda (which I believe is the 2nd largest Honda dealer).
Question, does you know if the TSBs apply only to the 2018 model? Or does it also apply to the 2019 model since is basically the same vehicle. I bought a 2019 over a week ago but on the PDI check list didn’t have any performed. Sent from my iPhone using Inside EVs
The Service Bulletins are by VIN number and not year. Your dealer should be able to verify that the applicable ones have been applied to your car. Note that SB 18-097 that corrects the over sensitivity to power fluctuations will not be installed unless you complain about charging problems.
Thank you Ken. I haven’t charged outside the house yet but I’ll keep in mind about that before taking it to the dealer and ask to run the vin. Sent from my iPhone using Inside EVs
Resurrecting this old thread as I am about to go in for my first OC (11 months and 11K miles) and wanted to combine SB updates. I am looking at getting 18-091 and 18-097 SBs. IIRC, there were some reports of reduced range after applying 18-097. Is that still a valid concern or just coincidence ? Lastly, any new SBs out there for the 2018 model ?
I didn't have them put on 18-097 because I wasn't having the problem. My range this year is the same as it was last year.
Thanks. I have encountered the charging problem 3-4 times at my work in the last year and it has always been when I was the only or 1 of 2 cars in the bank of chargers AND my charge was already above 50-60%. I just waited for more cars to plug-in and then restarted charging from the hondalink app
Thank you for this PDI sheet. I see there are only two jacking points, and they can't be reached by a typical scissors jack for changing a spare that didn't come with the car. Well, the back one can but wouldn't want to jack up the whole rear to change one tire. Any, very interesting read. P.S. - the fact they removed the traction battery hard fault code and made it a secret is not a good sign.
So, it took 2 days for my Honda dealer to figure out & do the 2 (range & charge) software updates and the oil change. When picking up the vehicle, the service advisor says that they applied 18-069 and 18-097. I told him that 18-069 was superseded by 18-091 and he just mumbles that its what the technician told him. I didn't want to waste any more time with them and paid and left. Anyone know the issues with 18-069 that 18-091 fixed ? At this point I doubt if they even applied any updates. Any way to check that ?
The only sure way is to take your Clarity to a different dealer with a more competent and cooperative service department.
