I have had a 2019 Kia Niro EV EX Premium for about 3 months. I probably don't have to tell you that I usually know more about the car than the dealership, or the salesman. Despite what these experts may tell you, the compact spare tire kit that fits in the standard Kia Niro Hybrid (NOT the PHEV) does fit in the EV. To install:

    1. Remove cargo floor
    2. Remove styrofoam insert and type 1 charger; save for reuse
    3. Unscrew and remove styrofoam tire mobility kit insert; put inflator and goop container aside for reuse
    4. Place compact spare and screw down with screw provided.
    5. Place styrofoam tool kit holder inside spare.
6 Replace styrofoam insert from step 2. Type 1 charger, inflator and goop all fit nicely in this space.
    7. Replace cargo floor.

If you are so inclined, the cargo mat with seat back protection from the Niro Hybrid also fits. What I have not been able to figure out is how to stow the cargo cover under the cargo floor like I could do with my Subaru Outback...

Have you noticed any decrease in miles you get on a charge due to the extra weight?

We have the spare tire kit as well and haven't noticed any efficiency loss from it.

Not yet; only installed it yesterday. Give me a week and I'll let you know. My mileage already sucks because I have a big @$$ wheelchair carrier on top; I was getting over 4 miles/kwH, now I get around 3...

  6. Any link reference or part# for this compact spare tire kit?

Hmmmmm. Well, I googled "kia niro spare tire kit" and got pages of hits. I bought mine from kiastuff.com...

  9. I searched Kiastuff.com and could not find one other than this for Niro - nothing in plug in or EV (is this the one?) :

Just wonder if its rated for the xtra weight on the EV
    Thanks...

Yes, sir; that's it. I doubt weight is a significant factor here; it's essentially the same compact spare you find on any other Kia. You are presumably only going to use it to get to a repair shoo...

  11. Thanks, just curious what is the max weight capability on the included scissor jack?

    No dumb questions, right?
Does the same spare work/fit on the basic niro ev as it does on the Premium model?
(Not sure if they may have different rims/tires.)
Any recollection of how long delivery took?
I could find nothing in manual about changing a tire. Is it clear on side of car where to put the jack?
Given size of car, I am guessing jack is raising whole side?

... also, if I bought a full size wheel, and left out all styrofoam shelves, would it fit under floor cover?

The compact spare works on all Niro models. I ordered it from kiastuff.com and it was delivered in about a week. There are instructions that come with the spare tire kit on how to use the jack, etc.

I don't think a full sized spare will fit in the wheel well...

    1. Does someone have access to reliable Niro EV wheel specs?
    - center bore:
    - offset:
    - nut pattern distance (eg, 5 x 114.3?):
    - lug nut type, size, threading:
    2. The offset spec could vary a few mm, right?
    3. Is there consensus on minimum load capacity for a scissor jack for an EV?

There are four jack points, each just inboard of the four wheels. They are at the ends of a bar that runs front to back on each side, presumably supporting the battery pack. The load limit on the jack that comes with the spare tire kit is 1000kg/2200lbs...

If the curb weight is over 1700kg is that jack sufficient? I know 3 wheels will be on the ground, but the jack will still be supporting a significant load.
