Trying to get a sense of the resale market for Nissan Leaf models that are 2015 and newer. Are 2015 and newer Leafs in demand?
You can a sense of the demand by looking at the resale value and time the car is sitting on the dealers lots. https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/price-trends/Nissan-Leaf-d2077 https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/l-Used-2016-Nissan-Leaf-c25326#listing=233479085
In the UK, they can't keep stock of used Leafs and other used EVs. Starting to see that trend in North America albeit a slower pickup. Good value in used EVs, especially used Leafs if the capacity can work for your use case.
Yea, I agree, this has been a slower pickup in NA. We don't have the same urban density as other places, like the UK, for Leafs to be the most practical car for many people's use case (namely commuting for work). I'm working on selling mine, so that I can get a PHEV, because I occasionally have a 100+ mile drive for my job (about once or twice a month). For those days, I can't use my Leaf!
I just bought a 2018 (151 mi / 40 kWh) and I couldn't be happier. This market is changing so fast, I think there are a lot of folks like myself that don't want to pay full price. So buying used makes sense until the market matures, range goes up, infrastructure is more built out and prices come down.
There are not too many vechiles in market leading to inflated prices for used cars. At least that is my opinion. Most used Leafs in my area are sold by Nissan dealers they want full blue box price and do not want to negotiate.
Congrats on your buy, that is great! I just did a 1-Year review on my My18 Leaf and you can check it out on my YouTube Channel: EV Revolution Show. You are correct about buying used if you can and yes, much more infrastructure is coming to support EVs and hopefully we will see price parities within 5 years or less.
