So I noticed every single day so far that I have little tiny flying bugs, mostly on the roof of the car. A handful only, but enough to bug me. Wife says it may be infested but no idea where they could be coming from. They are different types too. I'll try to take pictures. But wonder if the type of pearl white paint attracts them?
In our case we have ash from the huge local wildfires, even when the car is parked in the garage. We used to have small white flys when we lived in SoCal. They were on a tree in our front yard. The advice given to us was twofold. 1) Wash them off with a hose. 2) make sure not to kill ants crawling up the tree because they eat white flys.
I think it would depend on where you live and what time of the year it is. Right now, our car is collecting lots of tiny dots of sap from the junipers. While they are some distance from the car, we had to cut down the ones that were closer to the car because of their propensity to send droplets of sticky sap - very tiny, but enough to completely cover the car with little dots. It's particularly bad on the windshield because a normal "wipe" won't get rid of the droplets. Thought we'd solved the problem by getting rid of the closest juniper, but apparently the stuff travels well. It'll be past by mid-October or so until we're out of season for that, but until then the car needs washing a few times a week - unfortunately, the garage is full. A car cover would probably work well - but those can be inconvenient if you're in and out of the car very often. Haven't decided whether or not it's worth that jump yet. jdonalds, sorry to hear that things are not much better up there for you all. You're not getting any breaks at all from this - especially with the new fire that started just north of you. Our time is coming - and right soon, as they say. We're all paying attention right now since our worst fire weather is right around the corner - the next two months from today will be the worst. We are kind of resigned to a bad fire season having seen the devastation up your way. Hopefully it won't come to pass, but we're ready to roll.
Not trying to co-opt this thread, but I have a bug problem of my own. Apparently, there is a spider living in my Clarity. Every few days, a spider web forms near my driver-side mirror. I wipe away the web, and it forms again after a few days. I'm resigned to just wait until the spider eventually dies, but I've read that they can live for years. Is there a way to get rid of this problem? Has anyone else seen this problem?
I had weird little gnat things attached to my roof a few weeks ago. I sprayed down my grass with an insecticide (one of those bottles you hook to your garden hose and water the grass with). The problem went away quickly. ps, I live in a rural area and also have a ground cluster fly problem so I have to do this fairly regularly to keep it under control.
I have a white Clarity. Not sure if it attracts bugs more than other colors but it really has a hard time with dirt. The sill of the rear bumper is constantly dirty because all of the dirt/moisture from the top of the car and rear window gets channeled under the spoiler to the bumper sill. That also impacts the area around the rear license plate and camera. The rest of the car can stay sparkling clean when this happens. No doubt this behavior has something to do with the aerodynamics but I've not seen this with any of my other cars. I know this happens with all Claritys but the dirt is most apparent on white.
At night in the garage with the lights on overhead our white Clarity seems to attract about as many bugs as the light above it does. I think it is mostly a light reflection thing.
