Are the stock license plate bolts long enough to install a Tesla-made license plate frame? All the website says is that the frame doesn't include bolts - and my local Tesla service center says they have no idea. I contacted a friend who is an Advisor at a Tesla Store in another state and she, too, was unable to find anyone who knew the answer...
Just today a friend brought home a new MY and found the 5mm M5 license plate bolts to be too short to attach a plastic plate frame and his license plate. The only longer size he could find locally was 10mm and they proved to be too long for the task.
Buy a pair of 10 mm bolts and one 10 mm nut. Use a felt tip pen to measure how long it needs to be. Mark how long the bolt shaft needs to be from the measurement. With the nut all the way on the bolt, cut off the excess. Unscrew and rock the nut to fix any rough parts to the threads. Then make a 10 minute, YouTube about "Fixing Tesla License Plate Bolt." Which is what my friend did. What we require, though, is a greater range of available M5 bolts in the US!
