  1. The Electric GT Championship uses a modified Tesla Model S and should start racing in 2018. It's supposed to have 10 teams with 2 cars apiece.

They recently let Ben Anderson take their promotional vehicle on some hot laps at Pau-Arnos, although at half power, sadly. I'm anxious to see what the fully race-prepped vehicle can actually do, especially as concerns cooling. You can watch some of that and get his impressions >here<.

  4. Nice! So, maybe you can tell me... does this demonstration car have the carbon body shell, or is that still to come?

It's the production shell with composite outer panels (doors roof bonnet tailgate etc). 500kg weight saving.

  6. Ah, I see, thanks! I find it crazy that there's that much weight to be saved.

  8. That's a fantastic article. So many insights into various aspects I hadn't heard before. Nicely done!

Honestly, I have mixed feelings about this series. I like the concept, of course -- electric GT sedans on a track -- but I worry the Tesla won't be able to keep up with the cooling demands, even with the lightening and extra radiators. I would have liked to have seen a proof of concept car made from a new P100D to be confident that it's feasible. Also, with only one team declared with less than a year to until racing starts, is there enough time for Campos to build twenty cars -- I've not idea what sort of capacity they have, but it seems like a stiff challenge.

What's your level of confidence in the performance abilities of the final product?

I am looking forward to this series - I hope we can find it on a publicly available streaming site.

  13. Not the most catchy name ever, but your Epics suggestion seems like a good direction to head in, marketing-wise.
