Basically it sort of confirms what some have suspected - back in Nov, they pushed back the ID.4 launch so they could deliver cars with updated software. The ID.3 that they delivered in 2020 were pushed out mainly to reduce EU fines.

Some customers in European countries will be getting ID.4 in March. Some people in Europe are able to obtain a "Build week" - the week during which the car actually comes off the line. Nothing firm for the U.S. market - they just say "Spring", and nobody in the U.S. knows anything about build weeks.

And then in the youtube comments, people are saying that there is evidence that US ID.4 are already in the U.S. The picture shows what looks like US spec ID.4 1st, and people believe this to be taken at the port in Rhode Island. All based on a press photo:

But nobody can say with a lot of certainty. Maybe they are waiting for software updates? Maybe waiting for customs? Maybe these are dealer demo cars? We really don't know.

  4. I've heard there's a problem with microchip availability -- not sure if that's correct as I haven't looked it up myself. I'm in Canada and recently put down a deposit on the ID.4 that the salesperson said would be out in a couple of months......but the paperwork says "expected delivery July 31".

There are apparently now many cars in multiple ports.

The only roadblock is the 2.1 software update, but customers in the U.K. and Germany are reporting that that basically becomes available in the next few days. A handful of people are getting emails from their dealers with actual VIN numbers and delivery dates.

Your ID.4 is almost home. Your ID.4 is in the country and making its way to Dover, DE. Your dealer will contact you when your vehicle is ready for pickup.

Here’s the status from VW ID.4 order website for the AWD Pro S, as of Friday March 5:
    “Your order is
    locked.
Now that your order is locked, production can begin. We have started manufacturing your all-new ID.4.You will be notified when production is complete.”

Congratulations! Should be discovery time for you. Let us know your feedback on the new ride, and the state of software performance .... BTW what colors did you pick?

P.S. the AWD delivery has been pushback towards the end of year.

Picked the blue exterior, black interior. It is 1st edition, so there was a limited set of things to choose from. A handful of people have already had a chance for a test drive, but honestly it takes a lot more time than that to become fully familiar with the thing.

I heard about the AWD delay - I really don't need that for our climate in Delaware.

  14. Looks like others have begun to receive their cars. Look forward to seeing some here.

Apparently this U.S. customer was surprised at the volume of the low-speed sound and made a short video.

  17. Yeah, I'm not convinced that low-speed sound emulator thing has been well thought out. Will be interesting to see how it evolves over time.

How long did it take for the car to go from leaving the factory to arriving in the United States?

  20. Looks nice... is that the optional electronic tow hitch I see there?

No. US cars only get a hitch receiver. If all you are doing is hauling bikes, that's good enough.

It is believed that there is the wiring present to haul a trailer, but nobody has had their car long enough to investigate.

So how do you like the car so far? Anything you don’t like?

It is really solid, and fun to drive. Cargo space is good, seats are comfortable.

The thing isn't small, however. If you are expecting an econobox, this isn't it.

I suspect that if you kept the speed down, a range of over 300 miles is possible. I drove 147 this morning, and used 50% of the battery. Part of my trip was on 50mph roads, part was on 70mph roads.
