  1. The Polestar 2 can now be ordered.

To do this, just go to the Polestar 2 section of the automaker's site. (link is to U.S. site)
From here we see the base price is s $59,900 and we can just click on the configure box to get started.

Next, plug in your zip code and the stores in your market appear for you to choose one.
Now, I have a Florida zip code and there is supposedly a 'Space' coming to this state in 2021 but it's not yet listed here. So, I will choose the Manhatten Space.
Note: if you click 'Show all retailers, as of now it just adds the Marin, CA location.

  3. After clicking continue, we get to the fun page. Here, you can choose the exterior and interior colors, as well as a number of options.
As you can see, I'm a person of taste, and so I went with the Moon paint and the Barley interior which I feel pairs the best with this exterior color.

For wheels, I went with the 20"4-Y spoke, which required me to accept the Performance package. Among other things, this gives you the gold Brembo calipers and matching gold seatbelts. Personally, I wish they offered the caliper in the same color as the car but that's not an option.

I also selected the towbar (max towing capacity is 2,000 pounds). Interestingly, it says about this hitch: "The semi-electrical tow bar unfolds at the touch of a button in the trunk. Lock it into place manually. There’s a light on the button which indicates the locked status, and a message is shown in the Polestar 2 centre display if it’s unlocked." Sounds pretty nifty.

I also selected the load carriers because kayaks and mats because...hey, why aren't mats standard?

Then, you can choose your purchase method: finance, lease, or cash. I choose cash because it's the most straightforward but it's interesting to note that if you choose to finance or lease you can change the terms somewhat to find the best arrangement for your situation.

So then, you can scroll down a bit and see your final price. With the delivery fee and deposit taken into account, my configuration comes to $73,250. Of course, the car is eligible for the federal tax credit which would reduce my total out-of-pocket after next year's taxes by $7,500.

Possibly the best part? It says estimated delivery is in September. That's soon!

  4. From here, you need to fill in some personal details and after you click on "Create account," Polestar-2-config-page-4.jpg

After smashing the creating account button a new page opens and lets you know that Polestar offers a trade-in program and you'll be asked for more info later in the process if you wish to do that. To tie a bow on the whole ordering process, you just click on the "Pay Deposit" button.

    Polestar-2-config-page-5.jpg

The next page requires you to scroll through terms and conditions before checking the box that confirms you've read and accepted the terms. (Interestingly, the terms mention that California has a high-voltage battery warranty of 10 years/150,000 miles, instead of the usual 8-year/100,000-mile warranty in the rest of the country.)

Now, just click on "pay with credit card" and the fields to enter that info appears.

Finally, click on "Pay Deposit" and you're set! (I didn't actually click on this since I'm not actually ordering a car (though I wish I could) so if the next screens are interesting, please feel free to share them below.

Any idea when they will launch the single motor version and what price?

I live in Florida. The nearest Polestar Space is over 1000 miles away in New York. Apparently, they won't let you order a car if you live that far from a Space. Any word on when they'll open up test drives and/or ordering for elsewhere? BTW, currently own and love my MINI SE but am looking to the future for when I might want to "upgrade" to something larger and with more range/tech.

  9. I was under the impression anyone could buy one through the Polestar website. I've contacted their PR dept. for clarification on this, as well as the timing of the Miami store.

Thanks! I just re-chatted with Polestar and confirmed that I can order from their NYC location for delivery, but would need to travel there to test drive/explore it before purchase. Hopefully the Miami space will open soon. In the meantime, my MINI SE will have to suffice ;-). Love the podcast, BTW!

  11. I had just remembered they contacted me a few days ago about buying the vehicle I specced above, so I got back in touch and they confirmed again with me that they'll sell anywhere but there would be delivery fees outside 150-miles from a Space.
No new visibility on the Miami store yet, but Denver opens March 30 -- it's already on the map on the website -- and Austin, Texas after that.

I finally decided the pull the trigger, take the risk and order a Polestar 2 sight-unseen and without a Space nearby, with the expectation that the Miami Space will open before my P2 needs servicing. I configured the car that I want but cannot get any configuration actually ordered. Their web site and app just stagnate on the final step. I have tried 3 browsers on a Mac, 2 browsers on Windows (and incognito modes for each), and the iPhone app... no luck :-( Has anyone else tried to order one this week and been successful? I have chatted with and called Polestar still with no luck. Perhaps this is a sign I should wait?

We test drove the car and really liked it.

Were you able to resolve the ordering issues?

Long story not-so-short... I received my Polestar 2 a few weeks ago and couldn't be happier! The issue with configuring at their web site was a technical glitch which they were able to fix. During the wait for that fix, I decided that I must test drive the car before placing the order and without a local Space or test drive option, I decided to get creative rather than wait. I found and contacted the Head of Polestar North America on Facebook and asked for his assistance. To my surprise, he replied almost immediately and arranged for a car to be delivered to my home for a long weekend of test driving. That experience and the test drive itself convinced me to place my order. I have the Moon exterior and Barley leather interior and did not opt for the Performance Package. The car is awesome! Feel free to ask if you have any questions. BTW, there is a user forum and several Facebook owner's groups that are very active as well.

    What an awesome experience!

We live close to the New York store but we were impressed by the low stress sales pitch and high interest in making the owner experience wonderful. As we get closer to my husband pulling the trigger, I'll have more questions,so thanks for sharing.

Glad to help now and in the future if needed. BTW, my car is a New York transplant ;-) I bought it from the Manhattan Space and had it shipped down. My salesperson was awesome! The only hitch was that I explicitly requested to NOT install the front license plate holder because Florida doesn't use them and I wanted a pristine front bumper. Their "prep" team installed it anyway (not the first time they made this costly mistake, apparently). Polestar corporate is taking care of me and is completely replacing the front bumper with a pristine one. I also wanted to get an all-wheel alignment done after the car's 1000-mile trip from New York on a flatbed. Given that the local Space in Miami is not yet open, Polestar corporate said to take it anywhere I wanted (I chose my local Volvo dealer) and they reimbursed me. Once my local Space opens in Miami, I'll have more options, but until then, I still feel completely covered.

Just finished watching episode 4. Great stuff and nice to see a comparison and review that doesn’t bash the competition. As they say, a rising tide lifts all ships.
