We went shopping for a standard Hybrid and ended up with the Clarity PHEV, which we intend to drive for at least 10 years. Take the Accord for a good test drive before pulling the trigger. I haven’t driven one. It is my understanding that the Accord Hybrid operates, all the time, in the same way as the Clarity when in HV Mode. The ICE powers a generator that provides electricity to the traction motor. Some Clarity owners have found this mode to be one of the vehicle’s most annoying features. Granted, the Accord has a more powerful 2.0l engine which drives a more powerful generator. The Clarity, on the other hand, has a 17kWh battery, compared to a 1kWh battery in the Accord, which allows the car to operate as a BEV with ~47 miles of range. Also, consider the cost of fuel where you intend to operate the car. With the Accord, your only option is gasoline. With the Clarity, you’ll have a choice of gasoline or electricity.
Last month I sold my white 2019 Honda Clarity Turing to Vroom for $23,258 and picked up Black 2020 Clarity Base for $24,608 plus TTL from Norm Reeves Honda Irvine. Total OTD was $27,227. I also qualified for the 1.9% special APR with $0 down payment and got 2 free oil changes. Buying process was seamless and the sales assistant manager James is a very nice person... After a week from purchase, I noticed a very tiny area on the trunk with a chipped paint (smaller than thumbnail).... I went back to James and negotiated a deal instead of body work and got free window tinting, free alarm system activation, and a free touch paint pen to cover the chipped area instead…I'm very satisfied overall..
Jealous at your Vroom offer. I just tried to sell my 2020 Base with only 4K miles to them but only got an offer for $21k Sent from my iPhone using Inside EVs
https://www.cleanfuelreward.com/find-your-ev/electric-car-dealers A few dealers are offering this in the Bay Area. That would bring the base price down by $1500 at the point of sale. Its a new program that started Nov 17. I think it voids the 800$ PGE rebate due to expire on Dec 31. The dealer has to be registered first.
Prices for used do seem to be cratering, -$500/wk or so based on NADA anyways for the last month. I think if i go with a used replacement I should just wait a few weeks. I visited the local vehicle my insurance used as a valuation basis for my total loss, a 2018 white touring with 13k mi, for $24650. 12V was dead. Outside didn't seem to have any damages. Interior light color but definitely minor stains (like small ink stains), but otherwise no visible damage.
I just purchased a White 2020 Touring yesterday for $27,840 + tax & fees. $27,715 Price negotiated + 125 Wheel Locks (I had no choice) ---------- $27,840 I could have purchased a White 2020 Touring for $27,500 + tax & fees but it had been sitting on the lot for 1 year. The one that I purchased had only been on the lot for less than 6 months and it did not have a front plate attached (big plus for me).......so I paid the $340 extra. Now I have to sell my White 2019 Touring with under 2,400 miles on it at the moment but will be driving it until I sell it.
Already have a trade in offer of $24,900 and didn't think they'd come anywhere near that. Also, didn't have the option to take the 2019 Clarity with me to the dealership yesterday.
Has anyone had luck trading in their Clarity to Honda for a newer version? We have a 2018 Touring and the offers from Vroom and the like have been underwhelming to say the least. I’m curious if the trade in route might be better. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Picked up a 2020 Clarity, base trim, silver color from Honda of Thousand Oaks, CA today. Sale price before TTL was 23,825. This includes 1,500 California clean fuel rebate; they didn't quite know yet how the program worked and it took a call to the number listed on cleanfuelreward.com to help them understand, but it all worked out in the end 6,500 Honda discount for 2020 Clarity 2,530 dealer discount (inferred from remaining difference to 34,355 MSRP) 0 charge for dealer accessories (yay!) Got the usual 1.9% Honda financing. After claiming the additional post-sale rebates available to me (7,500 federal, 1,000 state and 250 utility), the car will have cost me a grand total of 18k even (including all taxes and fees). My sales contact was David Schwartz, [email protected] who I found very easy to deal with. Seemed very straight from the start with giving me facts about their available discounts and manufacturer rebates, and a simple follow-up question from me asking directly if I could get the price I wanted was all that was needed to arrive at this price. No surprises or deceptions anywhere in the process. (Finance guy offered a few add-on warranties/"protection plans" but they were easy enough to opt out of.)
Got a 2020 Clarity Touring today from Spreen Corona $37,555 - $10,840 $26715 base The product specialist I worked with was [email protected] who was pleasant. Sales manager tried to push accessories but I was able to get the car without having to pay for the "dealer installed" accessories. I think they still have stock of 2020's (which is exactly the same as 2021 but does not have the end of year dealer discount).
For those interested, I ran my 2018 Clarity Touring with 7k miles through the Tesla appraisal site today. Their offer on it was $14,100... has there ever been a Honda that had its residual / resale value plummet like this? It's crazy for such an awesome car.
That’s your low ball offer. Consider, however, that 2020’s are rolling off dealer lots for $18-20K net, after all discounts, rebates and credits are factored in. Anyone who can take advantage of all the incentives probably wouldn’t pay more than $15-16K for a 2 year old car. In some parts of the country, the $7500 federal credit is the only incentive and dealers may not even have a Clarity in stock. A buyer in one of these areas might consider a car like yours a bargain at $20K. Not all Clarity owners paid $37,500 for a touring model. Our net cost was ~$23K and many have bought one for less. It’s a $30K value, tops. And you’re using a ridiculous offers as some sort of guide to determine depreciation.
Tesla trade in is usually on the low side. Try Vroom and Carvana. Also, the price plummeting may be due to the $6500 cash on the hood of the 2020s.
Does anyone know if the 6500 in trunk cash on the 20s is still a thing? I finally found a 2020 in the config I want, but the dealer refuses to discount the car and has no clue about the 6500 off.
Check through COSTCO as COSTCO shows any Manufacturer Discount. But what I know, Honda does this to Sell their EVs to meet the EV Target for the Year in the Zero Emission States like CA, OR. I doubt they will do at the start of the Year, but eventually they will do come summer. But who knows?
Got 27,500 + TTL on a new 2020 touring at Goudi Honda in Alhambra, CA. Thousand Oaks Honda was willing to do 26,500 + TTL but didn't have the color I wanted (they had signed up for CRF, Goudi had not and does not intend to). Net after incentives 19k + TTL on original price. No accessories, but I don't really care about those. Honda financing was going to be 3.99% APR, even with excellent credit, so I brought my own.
