I used to have a SCAN II gauge (it was stolen out of my SUV) that would do just that.

Maybe some kleptomaniac Prius owner couldn't fathom why you'd want the ScanII in an SUV...:p

In all seriousness, with the myriad of monitoring equipment in the Clarity, why should we even need a secondary device - but then I am violating the Prime Directive - shut up and just get in the car and drive...we control the horizontal, we control the vertical...

Looks like they got onto the beach near Torrey Pines. The large building you can see on the point (at the end of the ad) is in La Jolla. Other parts look like Coronado.

At least back in the '80s you could drive on the beaches of the outer barrier islands from Corpus Christi, TX. I suspect the salted sand was less than good for the cars though.

But, it does look comfy warm there in San Diego!

Pismo Beach, north of Santa Barbara, still allows cars on the beach - lots of sand dunes there and lots of RVs and accompanying sand toys.

… it's kind of cold here today only got up to 62º so far…

With the range estimator in many if not most PEVs being so inaccurate that the term "guess-o-meter" has become popular, and with subjects like actual battery capacity and actual kWh usage a matter of argument and opinion more often than clearly established facts, it's hardly any surprise that some PEV drivers want a third-party device to monitor their car's energy usage and efficiency!

You obviously want us all to be jealous of you. Well... it's working. :p

I wish there was a way to display EV miles travelled, either by trip or by lifetime (preferably both). Even better, a way to break down each trip by EV and Gas miles. Unless I'm missing it, there's no easy way to calculate pure ICE mileage. Am I missing something?

Why is the power button red? Thankfully the steering wheel blocks it most of the time but that red color is distracting and makes it seem like something is wrong. Most cars go with a nice calming orange color.

It's been heating up here in CA (high of 78 today - sorry those of you still feeling cold) and I can tell that the A/C vents seem rather restrictive. The center vents in particular are quite narrow in height and it's made even worse by the top edge of the touchscreen that sticks out into the airflow. When I adjust the vents to blow straight out you can feel the wood grain in front of the vents and the top edge of the touchscreen get quite cold, but that's just cool air wasted and weakened.

I've noticed that the backup sensors don't really see small objects. On my Toyota I'm sure it doesn't see people that well, and even a motorcycle or bicycle could be too small if not close. I always prefer to look back with my own eyes.

There's no easy way to accomplish this in a PHEV. MPGe may be the only realistic way to know if you're on target or not. That's easy enough by using one of the Trip odometers to measure the distance between fill-ups. Part of the problem for pure ICE or pure EV measures is the hybrid activity. The Prius PHEV gave percentage EV/HV miles, but you still couldn't isolate ICE only miles.

The inescapable problem is that sometimes you simply have to hold your breath when backing, whereas a rear cross-traffic alert would greatly alleviate this anxiety.

Anyone that’s had to back out of a spot when surrounded by mountaneous SUVs, knows what I’m talking about. A rear cross-traffic alert picks up traffic long before you see (or if you’re unfortunate, feel) traffic.

Add to that aggressive driving behavior (I was parked between cars I could almost see around, and as soon as I started backing up two cars from opposite directions accelerated because "they have the right of way and he's not going to back out in front of us". Some may laugh, but there is no patience or courtesy out there anymore. It's particularly bad out here in "Big Truck" country where cars sitting lower than their monster truck hoods are basically invisible because they know you will give them the right of way even when they are pulling out in front of you in traffic - it's dangerous out there folks.

That's why you cannot have too many safety aids anymore.

Same color as mine. I think it's the sexiest choice out of all of them. I'm not a "color" person. I tend to get tired of colors faster than I do of plain white.
