They may have over-priced the oil change, but synthetic oil is required. It's 0-20 weight, which I think is only available in full synthetic or synthetic blend.

IMHO I do not think HV range was a oversight...I believe the software is functioning as designed. While I will agree it is a totally different way to look at estimated miles...I purposely have not had the update applied. I just run the car and cipher on the high range as I go about my daily routine.

I have all confidence if I was to run this car for significant miles in HV mode...the high estimate based on previous driving habits...would greatly reduce at an accelerated rate. And by the time I got to thinking about a 6 gal fill-up...the estimated HV mileage would be inline with normal expectations.

Instead, I am choosing to drive the car as normal and wait to see if I meet or exceed the initial high value estimate...and willing to bet it will be close as long as same driving habits are utilized.

Not arguing whether it should or should not be fixed or that it makes more sense to majority of people to display near actual range instead of anticipated.

When the fix is applied, I imagine what folks do is see how long they can keep the HV range above 200 miles for example. Versus the high range estimate of trying to meet or exceed that number...different approach but both produce same outcome in the end.

Inquiring minds want to know. I have no doubt some well intentioned dealership will install the patch IF I ever have a need to take it in...so for now, going to evaluate the high range and have fun with it whilst I can.

Thank you so much for this info. Just filled the gas tank and the gas milage that was frozen at 153 miles no matter how much we used suddenly jumped up to 450 miles (no way). Will call the Honda Dealer - only bummer, 80 miles away from us. Price you pay for living in the Rocky mountains.

I went to the dealer to get this update applied, and they informed me that my car already had it and that there is no fix yet for the range calculator. This was confirmed by Honda customer care in response to a case I opened with them:

We value you as a Honda customer and we appreciate the time you took to notify us your experience. We offer our sincere apologies for the circumstances regarding your 2018 Clarity.

We understand that this issue with your brand new vehicle is unexpected but unfortunately, we do not have an ETA on when there will be a fix for the HV range calculator. We have verified that SB 18-069 is a techline summary for the technician to follow at the dealership. We have also verified that there are not any open campaigns or warranty extension pertaining to the issue. When there is a fix for the issue you are having, you will be notified by mail and your local dealership. In the mean time, we encourage you to continue working with your local Honda dealership, as they will be in the best position to repair your vehicle. We will document your feedback as product complaint. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to reach back out to us.

    Kind regards,

    Honda Automobile Customer Service

If your Clarity still has unbelievably high HV range estimates, then it does not have it. The update either has not been applied or has been applied incorrectly or partially. No one has posted yet that their Clarity came with the update applied from the factory in Japan. And the SB 18-069 states in the upper right corner that it is for ALL VINs.

Updating with the SB 18-069 has fixed every owner’s Clarity who has posted on this forum. If done on a full tank, then most of us report the HV range estimate instantly shows 357 miles and will adjust from there as you add gas to the tank. My dealer installed the update with no hassle after I gave them the SB # to look up.

Get your dealer to apply the software update or get another dealer with a lower BS quotient to do it.
Sadly you have proved that not only are many of the dealers clueless on the Clarity, but so are some people at Honda corporate.

    Attached is a
Copy of SB 18-069 to show your dealer.

I just got the SB 18-069 and did not see any change in my estimated range which is 500+ for HV alone with a full tank of gas (the same as when I arrived at the dealer). Is there a delay period before it corrects itself? BTW, I asked for the SB 18-079 update and they said they could not find this SB. Has anyone else had this problem?

Sorry to hear that. Mine came down immediately to 357 wirh a full tank and adusted from there after an HV trip. My dealer’s service advisor found both of them when I gave him the SB #s but could not find them using my VIN. He cheerfully had the 18-069 updated and said I didn’t need the 18-079 even though it’s for all VINs since I was not having the multiple warning lights problem.
If yours does not come down to believable #s, then perhaps the dealer botched the update as has been reported by one poster.

I had the same problem with a clueless dealer. I noticed it before leaving and had to work hard to convince them something was wrong. Turns out that they applied a control unit update instead of the meter update. Once they applied the correct update, the change appeared immediately.

I had the same issue. As Vinoh stated, I had to convince the dealer that something was wrong. They apparently did something wrong in the update process (not sure what it was), and it worked properly the 2nd time.

I wasn't aware you could apply the update to different parts of the car. Next time I'm in I'll ask them to do a meter update?

I was at the dealer today to get back up sensors installed and asked them to update the range fix. They tried doing it and saw that it was already updated.
My car was delivered on August 30. With 27kms of electric charge and a full tank of gas range shows 641kms / 400 miles does it sound right?

Is that 400 miles the HV range or Total range estimate?
If Total, You may be OK and have it already applied since mine started at 357 HV and 409 Total miles after dealer applied the update.
After the first time you put gas in you will know for sure by whether or not it adjusts to a realistic number or goes up to an unbelievable number. The more EV vs HV driving you do before adding gas will cause the HV estimate to increase even more if the update has not been applied.
Let us know what happens after your first fill up.

Does anyone have any specific advice about what to tell the dealer if they think they applied the update but it is clearly not working? I had them do it today while getting my (way too early) A01 service, and the HV range actually went up - from 969 to 1000, and the EV estimate came down to 44 after charging, when we typically see 55-65 or even 70 depending how we're driving. (The 5 mile drive from the dealer only used 3 miles of the estimate, so I'm guessing it just reset). Clearly, something happened - is there anything to tell them other than try again?

All you can do is fill up the tank and show them the erroneous HV estimate is still there. Then mention that other posters on the forum have had the same problem and a correctly done reinstall of the update worked. You could also mention that on a forum with almost 20,000 posts that no one has reported a Clarity that could not have the HV range fixed with the update. All this is evidence of an incorrect, faulty, or incomplete update on the first attempt.
It doesn’t give me much confidence in a service department that doesn’t even check to see if the fix worked or not before giving the car back to you.
If you’re read through the posts on this forum, I have no doubt that you know more about the Clarity than the dealer’s mechanics. Go back and don’t take no for an answer or go to a better dealer.

Just called the dealer about this issue (my Clarity will NOT go 790 miles on gas!!!). They talked to the service advisor who looked it up and said it came up, but did not apply to my car and if I wanted it applied I would have to pay out of pocket.

They said I could bring it in and they would have to call Honda of America and see if they would authorize it. Will see out it goes in the morning, but my BS meter is off the chart at the moment.

Strangely comforting to know there is a dealer out there worse than mine. :(

Your BS meter is infinitely more trustworthy and accurate than your dealer! What a crock o @*#€. My dealer took the SB # from me, looked it up, and said no problem. Had it done in about an hour. Any other dealers close to you?

KentuckyKen...I mean no disrespect when I say this.

The answer is not "how close is another dealer". Honda promises a nationwide network of reliable dealerships.

Hopefully Whisper will tell the service rep what is what and get the update as he/she is entitled too. Going to another dealer just perpetuates how inept or shady that particular dealer is.

    Hopefully all goes well.

Well, went to dealer and confirmed they this SB would be covered. Talking to a different service advisor was pretty much all it took - no calls to Honda America. They had a 4+hour wait to do anything so I have an appointment for Monday.

I could go to another dealer - there are several but I don’t expect it would be better. But they will know that the challenges I have with them mean I will be comparing. This dealer does not even have a free shuttle for dropping off for service. Instead you can pay for a rental or a subsidized Uber.
