    One other thing to note, if you can get the usage to near zero net or down appreciably there is another advantage. You normally pay utility bills with after tax money. When you pay for a solar system you get tax credits while prepaying for the opportunity to collect energy. One person I worked with compared it to an annuity, but the benefit you get won't be "taxed" while a stream of income generally would be.

    Unlike many of you, I live in a "PV-free zone," as I have not invested at all in PV (yet, anyway). My grid electric bill for the last 12 months, including charging the Clarity and summer A/C here in hot Texas, was $953 {for "100% 'green' wind power" too). Investing $15K or more in a PV set-up doesn't seem to be very sensible for me, but I know many of you live in places where the utility costs, etc. are much higher. (P.S. We do consume natural gas for hot water and winter heating, so our total energy costs are higher than just the electric bill.)
