Don’t have facts to quote from another source, but I do have multiple consistent observations over the last 3 months and 2,000 miles.
Immediately after a full charge and EV range estimate showing 60- 67 miles, I noticed that the amount of regen (how far the power meter goes down into the green) is always limited and that pedal breaking does not add more regen like it normally does. This persists for more than a couple of miles. For me, it’s more like 10 miles and EV getting down to low 50s.
So after a full charge I always see a period of time/miles when I’m not getting as much regen as normal.

The assumption/speculation is that it’s protecting the fully charged battery by preventing more charge from flowing into it. But with Honda not saying, who knows for sure.
So I hazarded a wild guess that perhaps more frequent full charging, leading to a higher percentage of this scenario vs full regen, might slightly reduce range due to less regen. But cannot say for sure or for how much. But if definitely does happen every time for me.

    Ken,

After reading your post, I began to look more closely at regen rates right after charging. I have noticed the same things as you. For a short time after unplugging the car, regen is limited to about 1/2 a green bar regardless of the speed or amount of braking that is applied.

This makes no sense to me, since the amount of energy required to get the car up to say 30 mph is greater than the amount of energy that could be recovered by regenerative braking. This leads me to think there must be some other factor at play with which we are unfamiliar.

But I still love my car, regardless. :D

Agreed, Tailwind. It’s part best PHEV available and part Chinese puzzle. Hopefully I’f we keep observing and sharing we’ll accumulate enough data to start figuring it out.
My last ICE on was 2 weeks ago for 2 miles less of HV range and 0.1 hour increment on my hour meter. Didnt even notice when it came on. System Check or full charge/limited regen/braking scenario?? Don’t know and not worrying about it ‘cause as you said, I love this car.

If you try to regen on a nearly full battery there’s increased likelihood that the ice will turn on.
